St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Falls in First Game of The New Year

Huskies dropped by Sioux Falls on the road, 70-63
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (7-4 overall, 4-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) fell to Sioux Falls in its first game of 2024, 70-63 on Friday evening at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls.
The Huskies trailed at the end of each quarter and were never able to take control of the game, despite outscoring USF in the second and fourth quarters. Sioux Falls (5-7, 3-5 NSIC) shot 59.2% (29-of-49) from the field and did not miss a shot from the free throw line (6-of-6). SCSU drained 45.8% of its three-point attempts (11-of-24) but the Cougars dominated the paint, outscoring the Huskies by 26 from close range.
Kami Wadsworth and Ayla Brown led the Cougars with 19 points apiece – no other player scored more than nine points. The duo of Wadsworth and Brown shot a combined 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line and together dished out seven assists. The Huskies put four players in double-digits.

- Senior guard Morgan Draheim (Hortonville, Wis.) scored 12 points, recorded a team-high four steals and grabbed three rebounds. She went a perfect 4-of-4 from the line.
- Sophomore forward Ashley Sawicki (Waunakee, Wis.) scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed four rebounds. She was 5-of-9 from the field.
- Sophomore guard Alyssa Stamer (Hutchinson, Minn.) scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field including 3-of-4 from three.
- SCSU is now 7-9 all-time against Sioux Falls after the loss.
- SCSU led the game in three-point percentage (45.8%-37.5%), three pointers (11-6), free throws (8-6), total rebounds (6-18—24 – 1-22—23), assists (16-14), second-chance points (7-0) and bench points (24-12).
- USF led in field goal percentage (59.2%-40.0%), free throw percentage (100.0%-72.7%), field goals (29-22), steals (13-9), blocks (3-0), points off turnovers (14-9), points in the paint (42-16), and fast break points (9-6).
- Draheim tallied a career-high four steals. She also tied her season highs in three pointers (two) and free throws made (four). She has scored 8+ points in nine of 11 games this season. She has made 2+ three-pointers in five games this season.
- Sawicki has scored in double digits in six games this season including the last three.
- Stamer recorded career-bests in points (11), field goals (four), field goal attempts (six), three pointers (three) and three-point attempts (four). It is the second time in her career she has scored 10+ points (both this season).
- Sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.) scored 11 points and made 3-of-5 three-point attempts. Her three three-pointers and five three-point attempts are new season-highs. She has scored double digit points in 31 of her 38 games as a Husky including 9 of 11 games this year.
- Senior forward Dru Henning (Mukwonago, Wis.) recorded three points, four assists and two rebounds. She set a new season high by shooting six three pointers. She has recorded 4+ assists in four games this season.
- Senior guard Tori Peschel (Sauk Centre, Minn.) tied her season-best by grabbing six rebounds. She has grabbed 3+ rebounds in all seven games she's played in and 5+ rebounds in five games.
- Sophomore forward Kora Forsline (Aurora, Minn.) recorded her first points of the season.
