St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Picks Up First Win of 2024 in Dominating Fashion

Eggebrecht’s offense outpouring helps lead Huskies past UMD, 64-47
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (8-6 overall, 5-5 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) outplayed Minnesota Duluth (9-5, 6-4 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon, beating the Bulldogs 64-47 at Halenbeck Hall.
The Huskies took a 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter after sophomore forward Ashley Sawicki (Waunakee, Wis.) nailed a deep buzzer beating three-pointer. SCSU went into the break leading 31-21. Sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.) led the first half charge for the Huskies pouring in 16 points. She made six of her seven field goal attempts including three of four three-point attempts.
The Huskies maintained its lead and went into the fourth quarter up 43-34 before outscoring the Bulldogs by eight in the fourth quarter to win 64-47. Sawicki and senior guard Makenna Vanzant (Farmington, Ark.) each scored seven second half points. UMD was able to hold Eggebrecht in check, as she only scored four points in the final 20 minutes.

The Huskies continue their homestand next weekend with a pair of games. On Friday, they face off against Wayne State and on Saturday they play Augustana. Friday's tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. and Saturday's game will begin at 3:30 p.m. Both games will take place at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. She has recorded 10+ points in 33 of her 41 games as a Husky including 11 of 14 games this year. Sixth career game with 20+ points and first time since last season on Feb. 18, 2023, vs. Minnesota Crookston. Third game this season with 3 made threes.
- Sawicki's three assists are a new season high. She made her first three pointer of the year and second of her career. She has scored in double digits in nine games this season including the last six. She has recorded at least six rebounds in 10 of 14 games this season.
- Vanzant produced her highest scoring output since the second game of the season. She has grabbed 4+ rebounds in four games this season.
- Peschel tied season highs in field goals (three) and assists (four). She has grabbed 3+ rebounds in all 10 games she's played in. She has tallied 4+ assists in four games including two straight. She has six games this season where she has tallied 3+ rebounds and 3+ assists.
- Freshman forward Paige Lambe (Verona, Wis.) scored six points and grabbed four rebounds. She set a new career-high in free throws (four) and tied her career high in rebounds (four) She has scored 5+ points five times this season including the last two games. She has grabbed four rebounds three times.
- Senior forward Dru Henning (Mukwonago, Wis.) tallied a career-high six assists, four rebounds and two steals. She has grabbed 4+ rebounds five times this season. She has dished out 4+ assists five times this season. She has recorded multiple steals in three games.
- Freshman guard Alana Zarneke (Appleton, Wis.) scored six points. She tied career-highs in field goal attempts (six) and rebounds (two). She has scored 6+ points four times.
