Breña Earns All-NSIC Honors as St. Cloud State Track & Field Opens Competition at the NSIC Championships

Paola Breña leaps to a second-place finish in the high jump, Huskies sit 10th in the team standings with one day remaining
MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State Track & Field's first day of competition in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Championships at the Mark Shuck Outdoor Track & Field Complex on the campus of Minnesota State University in Mankato was highlighted by graduate jumper Paola Breña (Queretero, Mexico) earning all-conference honors after being the runner-up in the high jump.
The Huskies came away with two personal bests and three season bests and sit in 10th place after compiling 8.0 team points.
Breña came away with a huge season best mark (1.71m / 5-7.25) to earn second place in the high jump. She has earned all-NSIC honors in each of her three conference meets with the Huskies, earning a second-place finish at each meet. Her previous best jump this season was 1.63m / 5-4.25 (twice) and today marked the first time she cleared 1.71m since she earned all-America honors at last year's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Senior sprinter Katie Lavato (Buffalo, Minn.) ran to new personal best times in the 100 and 200 meters. Her time in the 100 (11.96) was a 0.28 second personal record and her time in the 200 (24.84) was a 0.34 second best. It was the first time she broke 12.00 in the 100 and 25.00 in the 200.
Freshman sprinter/jumper Myesha Thompson (Mount Horeb, Wis.) recorded a new season best in the long jump (5.51m / 18-1), taking down her old mark by 0.05m / 2 inches.
Junior jumper/middle distance runner Makaylin Christenson (Prairie Farms, Wis.) tied her season best mark in the high jump (1.55m / 5-1) for the third time.
Freshman sprinter/hurdler Trinity Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) nearly set a new personal best in the 400 hurdles, missing out on the time she set last week by 0.38 seconds and freshman thrower Hannah Bruskiewicz (Rogers, Minn.) missed out her the personal best mark that set last week in the shot put by 0.03m / 1.25 inches.
