St. Cloud State picks up ninth win
Duluth, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (9-6, 6-4) NSIC picked up their ninth win of the season after defeating Minnesota Duluth 79-66 Saturday afternoon. In what was a defensive oriented start to the game, a three by Rachel Kottke gave the Huskies a 7-5 lead at the 3:51 mark of the first quarter. Both teams started to find their offense late in the quarter as SCSU narrowly held a 14-11 lead. St. Cloud State built up a six point lead early in the second quarter, but would ultimately be tied 19-19 with 6:36 left in the half. Alana Zarneke broke that tie as she cashed a three to spark a Huskies run. After getting a defensive stop, the Reagan Briggs came away with a rebound to put St. Cloud State on a fast break. She pushed the ball up to Jada Eggebrecht who dumped it down to Zarneke. She finished the layup while being fouled. Zarneke converted the and-one opportunity and then came away with an inbound steal where she then found a streaking Briggs for a layup. After another stop, Eggebrecht knocked down a long two pointer to put St. Cloud State up 16 after an 18-2 run. SCSU went into the break holding a 37-26 lead after holding UMD to 24% from the field in the first half. The third quarter saw Duluth start to chip into the lead as they got back within seven points. Back-to-back three's by Kottke and Eggebrecht pushed that lead back up to 11 points. UMD continued to be resilient as they kept fighting, but the Huskies ended the quarter with a bang as Kottke scorched consecutive threes to put SCSU up 14 going into the final frame. St. Cloud State built their lead up to 16 points and led by double-digits the rest of the way as they defeated Minnesota Duluth 79-66.
