St. Cloud State Softball Splits Opening Day of 2025 Season

Huskies dropped first game to UMD, beat BSU in second game
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (1-1, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) opened its 2025 schedule at the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud with a split on Friday. The Huskies fell to Minnesota Duluth, 10-3 and took down Bemidji State, 4-1 to close out the first day of game action.
GAME ONE: MINNESOTA DULUTH 10, ST. CLOUD STATE 3
The Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 NSIC) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after hitting a pair of 2-RBI doubles in the top half of the first inning. UMD extended its lead to six after a two-run home run in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies scored their first runs of the new season after a 2-RBI single off the bat from senior utility Rainna Stangle (Sartell, Minn.). SCSU added one more run in the fifth to cut its deficit to three, but Minnesota Duluth scored four more in the sixth to make the game 10-3.
TOP HUSKIES
Fifth year infielder Evy Polsfuss (Apple Valley, Minn.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the first run of the game in the bottom of the inning. The Huskies added another run in the second inning after Weiss hit an RBI-single. BSU (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) got one run back in the third inning, but SCSU responded with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend its lead to three and seal its first victory of the new season.

The Huskies wrap up their first weekend of play at the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament on Sunday against Southwest Minnesota State (0-2, 0-0 NSIC) and Bemidji State for a second time.
