St. Cloud State Clinches Home Playoff Game
Sioux Falls, S.D.- St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (13-12, 10-10 NSIC) clinched a home playoff game in the first round of the NSIC Tournament after defeating Augustana 74-60 Saturday evening. The Huskies got off to a fast start as a jumper by Alana Zarneke gave SCSU an early 9-5 lead in the first quarter. That jumper kicked off a 9-2 run for St. Cloud State as Reagan Briggs finish a layup to expand the lead to nine points with 4:25 left in the quarter. Free throws by Zarneke brought the lead up to double-digits as SCSU led 21-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Appleton, Wis. native got off to a hot start as she scored 12 points and cashed two threes in the first frame. Moving into the second quarter, the offense kept humming for St. Cloud State as they had doubled up Augustana with a 32-16 lead halfway through the second quarter. The Huskies kept pouring it on the Vikings as back-to-back threes by Jada Eggebrecht pushed the lead up to 21 points. St. Cloud State steadily held that lead as they went into halftime with a 45-27 advantage. The Huskies kept it rolling in the second half as they comfortably led by 17+ points in the third quarter. Taking a 65-48 lead into the fourth quarter, St. Cloud State did not let go of the rope as they led by 14+ points throughout. The Vikings made a run at the end of the game with a 7-0 spurt, but it would not matter as the Huskies won their third straight game with a 74-60 win against the Vikings.
