
Huskies Cruise to 80-47 Win Against Winona State in Regular Season Finale

St. Cloud State finishes eighth in NSIC standings
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (14-13, 11-11 NSIC) capped off the regular season with an 80-47 victory against Winona State Saturday evening. Through the first five minutes of the game, St. Cloud State held a 10-6 lead after a bucket by the Warriors. The defense then turned up for SCSU as they held WSU scoreless for the final four minutes of the quarter. With three field goal makes along the way, the Huskies would lead 16-6 going into the second quarter. St. Cloud State continued to expand the lead as an and-one layup by Kylan Gerads set the score at 35-17. With 2:19 left until halftime, Alana Zarneke cashed a three to push the lead to 20 points. Following a jumper by Winona, Zarneke splashed another three and then knocked down a long two with three seconds left in the half to cap of her personal 8-2 run. The Huskies would go into the half leading 43-21. The third quarter saw Winona State start to break into the deficit as a three-pointer at the 5:25 mark brought the lead down to 15 points. Halle Vande Hey got it back rolling for the Huskies with a putback off an offensive rebound. St. Cloud State forced a miss which then led to a three by Jada Eggebrecht. The Huskies strung another stop as Eggebrecht received an outlet pass off the rebound and then cashed a transition three. In need to stop the run, the Warriors would be stuffed on a jumper by Gerads who then took it the distance to cap off the 10-0 as St. Cloud State now led 57-32. The Huskies ultimately led by 23+ points the rest of the way with a lead as big as 33 points to cruise to an 80-47 win against Winona State.
