St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (14-13, 11-11 NSIC) are set to host Minot State in the first round of the NSIC Tournament on Wednesday, February 26. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
St. Cloud State wrapped up their regular season this past weekend as they hosted No. 25 Minnesota State and Winona State.
The first quarter against Minnesota State saw the Mavericks burst out of the gates with a 16-4 lead. A three-pointer by Jada Eggebrecht stopped the bleeding to cut the deficit to seven as Kylan Gerads then finished a layup to set the score at 16-9. The Mavericks would hold a steady lead the remainder of the first quarter as they led 22-13. SCSU kept the game in striking distance to start the second quarter as another inside finish by Gerads brought the Huskies within six points. From that point, MSU burst the game open with a 16-2 run as they now led 41-21 with 2:41 left in the half. The Mavericks kept piling it on as a layup by Destinee Bursch with three seconds left put Mankato up 48-23 going into halftime. The second half saw MSU continue to roll as they led by 25+ points the entirety of the second half. The Mavericks held a lead as big as 43 points as the Huskies would ultimately be defeated 96-61. Mankato forced SCSU into 35 turnovers which they turned into 47 points. Jada Eggebrecht led the Huskies in scoring with 12 points. She also grabbed five rebounds, dished three assists, and recorded a block and steal. This was her sixth game with 5+ rebounds. Kylan Gerads closed in on a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. She also nabbed two steals. This was her sixth game with 8+ rebounds.
Through the first five minutes of the game against Winona State, St. Cloud State held a 10-6 lead after a bucket by the Warriors. The defense then turned up for SCSU as they held WSU scoreless for the final four minutes of the quarter. With three field goal makes along the way, the Huskies would lead 16-6 going into the second quarter. St. Cloud State continued to expand the lead as an and-one layup by Kylan Gerads set the score at 35-17. With 2:19 left until halftime, Alana Zarneke cashed a three to push the lead to 20 points. Following a jumper by Winona, Zarneke splashed another three and then knocked down a long two with three seconds left in the half to cap of her personal 8-2 run. The Huskies would go into the half leading 43-21. The third quarter saw Winona State start to break into the deficit as a three-pointer at the 5:25 mark brought the lead down to 15 points. Halle Vande Hey got it back rolling for the Huskies with a putback off an offensive rebound. St. Cloud State forced a miss which then led to a three by Jada Eggebrecht. The Huskies strung another stop as Eggebrecht received an outlet pass off the rebound and then cashed a transition three. In need to stop the run, the Warriors would be stuffed on a jumper by Gerads who then took it the distance to cap off the 10-0 as St. Cloud State now led 57-32. The Huskies ultimately led by 23+ points the rest of the way with a lead as big as 33 points to cruise to an 80-47 win against Winona State. Jada Eggebrecht paced the Huskies in scoring with 19 points on an efficient 7/10 shooting. Eggebrecht also grabbed four rebounds, cash two threes, and recorded a block. This was her sixth game with 19+ points this season. Alana Zarneke closed in on a double-double with 17 points and seven rebounds while cashing three threes. This was her fifth game with 17+ points and eighth game with 3+ threes.

Postseason History
Wednesday's game against Minot State will be the 13th consecutive season where the Huskies have reached the postseason under Head Coach Lori Fish. This will be the second straight season where SCSU has hosted the first round of the NSIC Tournament. Last season, the Huskies took down Minot State to reach the Sanford Pentagon but were defeated by UMary in the quarterfinals. St. Cloud State is 1-0 all-time against Minot State in the NSIC Tournament.

In the all-time series between SCSU and Minot State, the Huskies hold a 22-5 lead while having won the past five meetings. The teams matched up twice where St. Cloud State swept the series.
The first matchup saw the Huskies flexed their defensive muscle in the first quarter as they held the Beavers to nine points on 4/13 shooting. Offensively, St. Cloud State put up 19 points by shooting 7/17, but were aggressive attacking the paint as they made five of their six free throw attempts. The teams battled in the second quarter quickly cut the Huskies lead to six points with 7:49 remaining in the half. Kylan Gerads pushed that lead back up to double-digits after she cashed a three-pointer and then finished a layup off her own miss to set the score at 26-15. St. Cloud State would go into halftime leading 29-20 after holding the Beavers to 36% from the field. SCSU's offense started to pick up coming out of halftime as a 9-2 run gave them a 15 point lead with 3:11 left in the third quarter. St. Cloud State would comfortably hold a 48-32 lead going into the final quarter after Jada Eggebrecht nailed a jumper with 39 seconds remaining. Minot State came out with a spark to start the fourth quarter as a 7-0 run at the 6:30 mark of the game cut St. Cloud State's lead to 10 points. SCSU would call a timeout and after trading turnovers, Reagan Briggs knocked down a much needed three-pointer for the Huskies to ease the tension. Minot State was never able to crack the St. Cloud State's lead into single digits the rest of the way as the Huskies picked up their first conference victory with a 63-51 win. The Huskies defense was lights out as they held Minot State to 40% from the field, 28% from three, and forced 19 turnovers. Jada Eggebrecht scored a game-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds and one assist and steal. Eggebrecht has scored 16+ points in four of SCSU's six games this season. Kylan Gerads set a career-high in scoring as she tallied 12 points on 4/6 shooting. She also made two three-pointers and grabbed six rebounds which she has done three times this season.

St. Cloud State defensively again stepped up as the Beavers could only manage three points and one made field goal, which came with seven seconds left, the rest of the half. During that time, an 8-0 run by SCSU propelled them to a 30-19 lead which ultimately turned into a 30-21 halftime lead after the layup by Minot State. The lead was steadily held by the Huskies coming out of halftime for the entirety of the third quarter. Leading by 6+ points for the quarter, St. Cloud State would end the quarter with a bang as Kylan Gerads knocked down a pair of free throws to put SCSU up 47-35 with eight seconds remaining. The free throws by Gerads were in the midst of a 5-0 run. That run quickly turned into an 8-0 as Alana Zarneke came away with an inbounds steal where she hit Kristi Kottke in the slot to cash a three as the Huskies would go into the fourth quarter leading 50-35. Kottke cashed another three to open the fourth quarter for the Huskies, extending the lead to 18 points. The Huskies ultimately led the entirety of the fourth quarter by 9+ points as they would go on to win 72-62 for their 11th win of the season. The Minot State Beavers come into the playoffs as the nine seed following a regular season where they went 10-19 with a 9-13 conference record. MSU closed out the regular season strong with wins over Augustana and Wayne State to end the year. The Beavers are coming off a 2023-24 season where they placed 10th after going 10-22 with a 7-15 mark in conference play. In the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll Minot State was picked to finish 14th.
Four Beavers currently score in double-digits with Emma Mogen leading the bunch with a 12.2 per game average. She is shooting 42.8% from the field and leads the team in rebounding and assists with 5.4 boards and 2.3 assists. Three other Beavers hover around 10 points in Maya Aguilar, Sydney Gustavsson, and Lara Dobbins. Aguilar is scoring 11.1 points per game to go with 3.1 rebounds.
