St. Cloud State Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season in South Carolina with 10 Top-10 Finishes

Huskies finish 19th out of 30 teams at Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – St. Cloud State Track & Field opened its outdoor season at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on Friday and Saturday. The Huskies placed 19th out of 30 teams after compiling 11.5 points. SCSU also recorded 10 top-10 finishes and four new personal bests.
Sophomore distance runner Alena Donahue (West Salem, Wis.) was fifth in the 3,000 meters and ran a new outdoor personal best time in the 5,000 meters (19:15.28), cutting 59 seconds off her previous best time.
Sophomore thrower Hannah Bruskiewicz (Rogers, Minn.) posted a new personal best in the shot put (12.39m/40-7.75) to place fifth. She took down her old personal best by five inches.
Senior jumper/middle distance runner Makaylin Christenson (Prairie Farm, Wis.) cleared 1.60m/5-3 in the high jump for the first time in her career. She tied for seventh in the event. Previously, Christenson cleared 1.59m/5-2.5 three times indoors, while her previous outdoor best was 1.55m/5-1 (three times).
Freshman distance runners Abbygail Nunez (South St. Paul, Minn.) and MerriAnna Johnson (Osceola, Wis.) recorded top-10 finishes in both the open 800 meters and the open 1,500 meters. Nunez was sixth in both events, while Johnson was 10th in the 800 and ninth in the 1,500 meters.
Sophomore thrower Savannah Reinke (Malta Bend, Mo.) was sixth in the javelin throw after a 34.09m/111-10 heave.
Freshman sprinter/hurdler Zaria Stapleton (Nassau, Bahamas) ran to a new personal best time in the 200 meters (27.22), cutting 0.25 seconds off her best time from indoor season.
Freshman sprinter Jayla Patterson (Romeoville, Ill.), fifth year sprinter Katie Lavato (Buffalo, Minn.), Stapleton and sophomore sprinter Viola Okey-Ezealah (Port-Harcourt, Nigeria) finished ninth in the 4x100 relay.
Sophomore sprinter Jenna Marxhausen (Two Harbors, Minn.), Lavato, Stapleton and Okey-Ezealah were 10th in the 4x200 relay.
Lavato, Christenson, Marxhausen and Nunez placed 10th in the 4x400 relay.
