Huskies Drop Tight Match Against Cedarville, Fall 4-3

Schaefer and Chapman each win twice
Orlando, Fla.- St. Cloud State Tennis (2-5, 0-2 NSIC) dropped their second straight match as they were defeated 4-3 against Cedarville University Tuesday morning. The Huskies won the doubles point after two wins but could only win two singles matches.
Doubles
For the third consecutive match, the Huskies captured the doubles point with two wins. At the No. 1 spot, the Yellowjackets took the point with a 6-2 win, but Lara-Maria Schaefer and Gibby Chapman responded with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot. In need of a win in the No. 3 spot to take the point, Brooklyn Broadwell and Oriana Grott came out victorious with a 6-4 win to secure the point for SCSU.
Singles
Moving into singles play with a 1-0 lead, the Yellowjackets took the first two matches in the No. 1 spot to tie the match at 1-1. In the No. 6 spot, Chapman gave the Huskies their first singles with a 6-1, 6-3 straight set victory as St. Cloud State retook the lead. Cedarville captured victories in the No. 3 and No. 2 spots to put them on the cusp of victory with a 3-2 lead. Schaefer would tie the match in the No.4 spot with a 6-4 7(7)-6(4) victory over Susannah Prince. With the match tied 3-3, it would come down to Broadwell and Faith Monson in the No. 5 spot. Broadwell took the first set 6-4, but Monson countered with her own 6-4 victory in set two. Heading into set three, Monson came away with the victory, beating Broadwell 10-4 in the third set as Cedarville took the match 4-3.
