García scores twice including game-winner against Upper Iowa
Bay City, Mich.- St. Cloud State Men's Soccer Senior forward Andrés García was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. This is the second time in his career that García has earned the recognition.
In the Huskies 3-1 season opening victory against Upper Iowa on Thursday, García came up big for SCSU by drawing a key penalty in the box at the 52nd minute mark. He took the penalty kick himself and delivered a strike to break a 1-1 tie. The goal ultimately went on to be the game-winning goal. That would be García's first goal since 2021 after persevering through multiple injuries. In St. Cloud State's 3-2 loss against Truman State on Sunday, García again found the back of the net which broke a 0-0 tie early in the second half. For the week, García led the GLIAC in points with four and goals with two. He also produced two shots with both landing on goal while playing 127 minutes.
García and the rest of the Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday, September 10 as they take on Quincy University at 12:00 p.m. at Husky Stadium. For all the latest on St. Cloud State Men's Soccer, stay tuned to scsuhuskies.com and follow the team on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
