
St. Cloud State Men’s Soccer Set for Two-Game Road Trip Against Davenport and Saginaw Valley State

Huskies with two key games on the road as they look ahead towards a GLIAC Playoffs berth
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (2-6-1) (0-3-1) will continue conference play this Friday, October 2nd in Caledonia, Michigan at Davenport University (2-4-3) (1-2-1) at 1:00 p.m. CT. The Huskies will then head over to University Center, Michigan to take on Saginaw Valley State (3-1-4) (1-1-2) on Sunday, October 4th at 10:00 a.m. CT.

Last Time Out
The Huskies tied against Roosevelt and fell to Northern Michigan in their conference battles last week.
Roosevelt Recap
It was a true defensive game between both teams, with their being just six total shots on goal through 90 minutes. SCSU's two shots on net were both in the 2nd half, coming from Drew Macoritti just inside the box to the left of the Laker keeper who came up with the save. Finn Mankowski registered the other shot on goal for the Huskies, firing a last second heave towards the net before the Laker keeper made the jumping save to keep the ball from sneaking into the top right corner. Erik Willke had his best game of the season earning his first collegiate shutout and tallying four saves.
Northern Michigan Recap
The Huskies came out of the gates handling most of the possession but did not get many good looks at the net. Towards the end of the first half in the 37th minute, Northern Michigan put themselves on the board and led 1-0 entering halftime. The second half was all Northern Michigan, as they scored three goals to carry their four-goal advantage to victory. Huskies were outshot 14-4 (8-2 SOG) and failed to convert any goals in the loss. The Huskies will hit the road for two games before their next home game on October 9th.

Series History Against the Davenport Panthers
Friday's game will be the 12th all-time meeting between the Panthers and the Huskies, with Davenport holding the all-time record at 8-1-2.
Recap of the Huskies Last Game Against Davenport (11/02/25)
Knowing the magnitude of this game, the Huskies came out aggressive early. They generated two corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes which resulted in two shots on goal, one from Alex Tiedt and the other from Owen Worsdell. Davenport pushed the ball into the Huskies box, but the backline defense held strong to prevent a goal. The Panthers ultimately cracked through the Huskies defense in the 21st minute as Charlie Davis dribbled deep into the box and scored for Davenport. With their new found momentum, the Panthers nearly scored again as Ramy Atia made a diving save to his right. DU followed through on the rebound for what appeared to be a goal, but was ruled offsides. St. Cloud State had one last push in the half that resulted in a great scoring chance for Yuken Harmon, but his shot would be saved by Beau Hudd of the Panthers in the 44th minute. SCSU went into the break down 1-0.
Moving into the second half, the Huskies continued to apply pressure on the Davenport defense. Andrés García compiled multiple scoring chances in the half with a shot high of the goal and then a near header goal that would be saved by Hudd. In the 52nd minute, Davenport nearly scored off a rebound again as Atia came away with a save. Off the rebound, the Panthers hit the post as the game remained 1-0. St. Cloud State had a continuous offensive attack throughout the course of the game with six corner kicks and eight shots on goal, but could never find the equalizing goal. The Huskies would be defeated 1-0 in what would ultimately be their final game of the year.
Scouting Davenport
The Panthers come into this game with a 2-4-3 record and a 1-2-1 GLIAC record through nine games this season. The Panthers last played on Sunday, September 27th against Purdue Northwest, falling 1-0 after a red card in the 77th minute put Davenport down a man in the final minutes of the game.
Junior, Isiah Meyer leads the Cardinals with six points this season. He has tallied three goals and eight shots (four on goal) throughout the season. Dugan Black and Charlie Davis are close behind with two goals each this season. Davenport has gone through four different starting goalies this season. Beau Hudd has been the most consistent starter this season with five total starts. Through those five games he has a 2.27 goals against average, 20 saves, and a 1-2-2 record.
Chris Hughes enters his 15th season as the head coach of the Davenport University men's soccer program in 2026, having guided the Panthers through a period of sustained success and growth since taking over in 2012. Over his first 14 seasons at the helm, Hughes has compiled an impressive 153-87-32 record and built a championship-caliber program that includes the 2014 NAIA National Championship, the 2021 GLIAC Regular Season Co-Championship, and the 2017 GLIAC Tournament Championship.
Series History against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals (SVSU)
Sunday's game will be the 12th all-time meeting between the Cardinals and the Huskies, with the Cardinals holding the all-time record at 8-0-3. The Huskies seek their first win in program history against the Cardinals.
Recap of the Huskies Last Game Against Saginaw Valley State (10/31/25)
The first half was a very heavy defensive battle between the teams. St. Cloud State was stout as they held the Cardinals without a shot for the first 32 minutes of action. Both teams registered three shots in the first half, but the Huskies were able to apply pressure with four corner kicks to the Cardinals two. Neither team tallied a shot on goal.
The second half saw the offense pick up as Matteo Bosch landed the games first shot on goal in the 49th minute, but it would be saved. In the 61st minute, the Cardinals broke the tie with a goal by Angel Aguilera to give them a 1-0 lead. The Huskies battled as they strung together multiple shots, but the Cardinals capitalized on a counterattack to take a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute. St. Cloud State produced only one more shot in the game, which came on goal, as they were defeated 2-0 against Saginaw Valley State.
Scouting Saginaw Valley State
The Cardinals come into this game with a 3-1-4 record and a 1-1-2 conference record. SVSU has tied their last two games 0-0 against Purdue Northwest and UW-Parkside.
Matty Telfer has been the dominate force for the Cardinals this season, tallying 16 points with seven goals, two assists, and 25 shots (16 on goal). Jo Bédard is the next highest point scorer with two goals, three assists, and 19 shots (10 on goal) this season. Nick Kaye has been the primary keeper for the Cardinals this season. Through eight starts he has allowed just seven goals good for a 0.90 goals against average, 17 saves, a 0.708 save percentage, and a 3-1-4 record.
Louis Barrow enters his eighth season as head coach of SVSU men's soccer. He has a career record of 76-29-21 (51-18-12 in GLIAC play). The Cardinals finished the 2025 season as GLIAC regular season champions. They were undefeated through their first eight matches and only suffered three losses in an 11-3-4 season. Kolja Thomas earned D2CCA All-American Honors and Eoin Farrell signed with the New Saints FC in the Welsh Premier League.
