St. Cloud State Men’s Soccer Set to Open Season Against Pair of GLVC Opponents

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud Men's Soccer is set to open their 2026 season against a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponents. On Thursday, August 27th, the Huskies will travel down to Kirksville, Missouri to battle against Truman State and then will head over to Quincy, Illinois on Saturday, August 29th to take on Quincy University. Thursday's season opener will begin at 7:30 P.M. CT with Sunday's game taking place at 12:00 P.M. CT.

Both games will be streamed live on the GLVC Network (registration required).

GLIAC Preseason Poll

Coming into the season, the Huskies were projected to finish seventh in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll. SCSU is coming off a 4-12-1 record with a 2-10 conference record to finish seventh in the GLIAC a year ago.

Series History Against Truman State

Thursday's game will be the fifth meeting between the Bulldogs and the Huskies, with the Bulldog's holding the all-time record at 3-0-1. Just a season ago, the Huskies fell 3-2 to the Bulldogs. Huskies led 2-0 in the second half thanks to goals by Andrés García and Diego Ramos, before giving up three unanswered goals to the Bulldogs Tyler Bouckaert, Jacob Panagos, and Mason Willier. Ramos produced a three-point afternoon in 69 minutes, tallying his second straight game with a point following a goal and an assist. Ryder Delport and Elliot Hadley each tallied assists in the game as well.

Series History against Quincy

Saturday's game will be just the second meeting between the Hawks and the Huskes, with the all-time record between the two teams at 0-0-1. The tie came last season in a resilient showing from the Huskies who battled back down a goal to draw the no.10 ranked Hawks. Carlos Moreno Henao opened the scoring for the Hawks at the 2:10 mark before being answered by former Husky Jalen Joshua Rueter in the 20th minute off a corner kick assist from Matteo Bosch. Graduated Husky Goalkeeper Ramy Atia was called for a red card from denying a goal scoring opportunity. The Hawks had created a break opportunity that caused Atia to step out of the box and touch the ball. Atia prevented a potential goal by Quincy but resulted in the Huskies playing 10 men the rest of the way. The red card sparked life for the Hawks in the final 16 minutes and created a multitude of scoring opportunities with the advantage. The defense of St. Cloud State rose to the occasion, replacement Keeper JJ Dufner came up big with three saves in the final 16 minutes of action.

Scouting the Bulldogs

Truman State enters the 2026 season coming off a 3-10-3 overall record in 2025, with a 2-10-2 conference record. The Bulldogs finished fourteenth in the GLVC rankings and would end up falling short of the conference playoffs.

The Bulldogs return their top point scorers from last season, Jacob Panagos, Tyler Bouckaert, and Oliver Doyle. Panagos led the team with seven goals and sixteen total points off of 28 shots, 16 of them landing on net. Bouckaert returns to the Bulldogs having started in 11 of his 15 games last year, tallying two goals and four points with seven shots on net. Doyle is coming off his best career season where he started in 13 of 16 games, scoring two goals, tallying four points, and 10 shots on net. Sophomore Goalkeeper, Owen Robben was the Bulldog's primary Keeper last season, starting in 15 games, with a 2.23 goals against average, 62 saves, good for a 0.660 save percentage. Robben had a 3-8-3 record in between the posts for the Bulldogs last season.

Head Coach Duke Cochran will be entering his 22nd season with the Bulldogs, where he's accumulated a 143-166-47 overall record with the squad. Cochran is the program's longest tenured coach in history, as well as their all-time wins leader.

Scouting the Hawks

Quincy University will also play a match on Thursday against Parkside before hosting their first home game of the season against the Huskies on Saturday. Quincy enters the 2026 season coming off a 8-7-3 season in 2025, with a 6-6-2 conference record. Just a season ago, Quincy University was the #1 ranked team in the Midwest Region United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Rankings (September 9th, 2025 poll), #10 in the nation, and finished the season 8th in the GLVC, enough to knab the final spot in the GLVC playoffs where they would eventually lose to the #1 seed Rockhurst University in the Quarterfinals.

The Hawks graduated their top scorer last season, Carlos Moreno Henao, who had 19 points off eight goals and three assists. Carlos was an All-Conference midfielder for the Hawks last season. Junior Mathias Bringedal returns to Quincy this season, coming off an efficient 2025 where he had four goals, four assists, and 12 points. The Hawks third leader in points, Junior, Leo Cann had 11 points off four goals and three assists last season. The Hawks primary Goalkeeper from last season was Jake Offerman. He'll return to Quincy for his senior season, coming off an impressive 2025, where he started in 18 games, producing a 0.78 goals against average, 69 saves, and a 0.831 save percentage, good for an overall record of 8-7-3.

Quincy University is manned by head coach Mike Carpenter, entering his 15th season with the Hawks. Carpenter owns a career record of 126-96-30 and has established Quincy as one of the GLVC's top programs. Under his leadership, Quincy has earned four NCAA Tournament appearances, two No. 1 seeds in the GLVC Tournament, and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Semifinals in 2014.
