St. Cloud State Men’s Soccer to Take on Division I St. Thomas

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (1-1-0) will take on Division I St. Thomas (1-1-2) on Wednesday, September 2nd at 3:00 p.m. CT in St. Paul at South Field.

Last Time Out
The Huskies are coming off last week's two-game Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) road series battle against the Truman State University Bulldogs (TSU) and the Quincy University Hawks.

The Huskies opened the season in style, taking down the Bulldogs 3-2 after a spectacular 3-goal game from Andrés García. Huskies started the 2nd half, immediately making an impact in the 47th minute as Andrés García scored the goal over the top of TSU Keeper, Owen Robben off the feed from André Walters. In the 75th minute, Andrés García received the pass from Santi Martin to score once again for the Huskies, coming up big to equalize the game 2-2. In the 87th minute, a foul was committed by the Bulldogs to set up a penalty kick for SCSU. The Huskies gave it to the hot boot, Andrés García, who converted the game winning goal, his third goal of the night, to make it 3-2 Huskies. García, tallying his second career hat trick, jumps to a tied for first in the Huskies all-time game winning goals list with five in his career, remains second on the all-time goals list with 16 career goals, and now is in a tie for second with Owen Worsdell with 33 career points. Sophomore Goalkeeper, Erik Willke, made his first career start as a Husky, making six saves to keep the Bulldogs from coming back in the game.

Huskies then took on Quincy University a couple days later on Saturday and would fall to the Hawks 5-1. Despite seven shots on goal, only one shot hit the back of the netting as Yousif Atia would score his first goal of 2026 off the assist from Matteo Bosch. Erik Willke came up with five saves in the game.

Series History Against St. Thomas
Wednesday's game will be the third meeting between the Tommies and the Huskies with the all-time record between the two teams at 0-2-0. The Huskies fell to the Tommies in their last meeting just a season ago.

St. Thomas got off to a fast start as they scored two goals in the first 18 minutes of the game. The Tommies tacked on another goal in the 40th minute as they went into halftime leading 3-0 with five shots on goal. St. Thomas continued their offensive surge in the second half as they scored another three goals. The Huskies got on the board in the 86th minute as Mahmood Maldonado knocked in a penalty kick. The Huskies were ultimately defeated 6-1 in St. Paul, Minn.

Scouting St. Thomas
The Tommies come into this game with a 1-1-2 record through four games. In their last match-up, the Tommies drew to Eastern Illinois 1-1 on Sunday, August 30th. The Tommies are coming off their best season in their Division I era (since 2021) after a 7-5-5 season in 2025.

Through four games, Freshman, Jacob Nokken and Graduate Student, Ednilson Voiles lead the Tommies in points with four. Nokken has played 164 minutes, tallying a goal, two assists, and five shots on goal. Voiles has played 105 minutes, tallying two goals and three shots on goal. The Tommies have started two different Goalkeepers this season, Damian Climent and Moritz Krenc. In his two games, Climent has a 1.00 goals against average, a 0.667 save percentage, four total saves, and a 0-0-2 record. In Krenc's two games, he has a 1.50 goals against average, a 0.625 save percentage, five total saves, and a 1-1-0 record.

The Tommies are coached by Jon Lowery who enters his 15th season with the program. Lowery and the Tommies saw sustained success at the Division III level with the program being a three-time MIAC regular season champion and a two-time MIAC tournament champion. In 2016, Lowery was named National Coach of the Year. Lowery had his most successful season in the Tommies Division I era, with records in nearly every statistical category. It was the first season above .500 since the team's transition, at 7-5-5 with a 1-3-2 Summit League record. The Toms scored more goals than ever before (24) and allowed fewer goals than ever before (22). Lowery has totaled a 135-105-32 record during his tenure.
