St. Cloud State Men’s Soccer to Play GLIAC Contests Against Roosevelt and Northern Michigan

Huskies will continue conference play with a game on the road and a game back at home
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (2-5-0) (0-2-0) will continue conference play this Wednesday, September 23rd at Roosevelt College (4-0-2) (2-0-0) at 1:00 p.m. CT. The Huskies will then host the Northern Michigan University Wildcats (4-2-1) (1-0-1) on Sunday, September 27th at 11:00 a.m. CT.

Last Time Out
The Huskies dropped both of their GLIAC contests last week against Purdue Northwest and UW-Parkside.
Purdue Northwest Recap
Purdue Northwest came out the gates firing as the Lions, Gianluca Franco, opened the gates with a goal in the third minute, followed by Landon Potts in the 12th minute. The Lions would carry a two-goal lead into the locker room. The Huskies began the 2nd half in better form and got the ball to hit the back of the netting in the 58th minute as King Dwumah Acheampong scored his first goal of the season on the assist from Gavin Gaetz. Huskies held the ball for the majority of the 2nd half with multiple different chances, but they couldn't score the equalizer, and the Lions would go on to win 2-1.
UW-Parkside Recap
The Huskies came out of the gates strong as King Dwumah Acheampong challenged the Rangers with brilliant footwork and multiple good looks at the net. However, the Rangers were the first to answer, scoring in the 17th and 36th minute of the first half. The Rangers added some extra insurance in the second half, scoring in the 74th minute to make it 3-0. The three unanswered goals would carry the Rangers to victory. Parkside goalkeeper Mateusz Pass kept the Huskies from scoring, coming up with five total saves.

Series History Against the Roosevelt Lakers
Wednesday's game will be the fifth meeting between the Lakers and the Huskies, with Roosevelt holding the all-time record at 3-1.
Recap of the Huskies Last Game Against Roosevelt (10/17/25)
St. Cloud State got the party started early in the game as they capitalized on a near free kick in the sixth minute. A foul that neared the box resulted in Matteo Bosch diming a great ball into harms way right in front of the goal. Roosevelt goalkeeper Eric Carval made initial contact with the ball before Owen Worsdell made a second touch to knock it into the back of the net as the Huskies took an early 1-0 lead. Roosevelt responded in the 19th minute after a deep throw-in led to a goal by Fynn Mewes to tie to the game. The Lakers continued to create scoring chances, but Ramy Atia ensured the game remained tied as he compiled six saves in the half including four saves following the Lakers goal.
Moving into the second half, the two teams continued their battle. The Lakers persisted in their offensive attack as they generated multiple corner kicks and shots on goal, but nothing came to fruition. In the 75th minute, Roosevelt pushed into the box as Caco Fernandez worked in deep. Fernandez slipped a pass through the Huskies defense to Mewes who gave the Lakers the lead. St. Cloud State recorded only one shot in the final 15 minutes as they would be defeated 2-1 against Roosevelt. finale.
Scouting Roosevelt
The Lakers come into this game with a 4-0-2 record and an undefeated conference record with two wins so far. They last played Purdue Northwest last Sunday, in a game that ended in a 2-0 victory for Roosevelt.
5th-year Fynn Mewes leads the Lakers with six goals, an assist, and 13 points on the season. Mewes has registered 11 shots on goal, seven more than any other Laker. Cedrick Strupler, the Lakers primary keeper, has accumulated a 0.20 goals against average, 22 saves, a 0.957 save percentage, and a 4-0-1 record.
The Lakers are coached by fifth year coach, Paddy Hoepp. Roosevelt has had tremendous success under Hoepp's direction, advancing at least to the conference semifinals in all four seasons. In 2022, Hoepp led the Lakers to an upset in the conference quarterfinals before falling in a narrow overtime match. Roosevelt did one better in 2023, winning a pair of home games in the conference tournament to advance to the championship game before falling in penalties. Hoepp has a 40-21-11 record all-time as head coach of the Lakers.
Series History against Northern Michigan
Sunday's game will be the 11th meeting all-time between the Wildcats and the Huskies, with the Wildcats holding the all-time record at 5-4-1.
Recap of the Huskies Last Game Against Northern Michigan (10/26/25)
Northern Michigan struck first in the game as Ian Weimer scored a goal from the bottom corner of their box in the 13th minute. St. Cloud State came away with three shots on goal in the half to try to keep pace, but were unable to equalize the game. The Wildcats nearly ended the half with another goal in the 37th minute, but it would be called back on offsides. SCSU would go into the break trailing 1-0.
Coming out of the break, a costly turnover for the Huskies in their defending zone led to a penalty kick for NMU. Luca Rosen capitalized on the opportunity and extended the lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute. The Huskies had chances in their attacking zone, but nothing came to fruition. A red card by St. Cloud State forced the Huskies to play 11 on 10 for the final 15 minutes and that ultimately led to another Wildcat goal. The Huskies would be defeated 3-0 in Marquette, Michigan.
Scouting Northern Michigan
The Wildcats come into this game with a 4-2-1 record and a 1-0-1 conference record. The Wildcats are coming off a 1-1 draw against Davenport last week on Sunday.
Senior, Luca Rosen has been the dominate force for Northern Michigan this season. He's tallied nine goals, two assists, and 20 points. His nine goals and 20 points leads the GLIAC. Rosen has also tallied 21 shots on goal. Asaf Kristal, the Wildcats primary keeper, has compiled a 1.69 goals against average, 28 saves, a 0.737 save percentage, and a 3-2-1 record.
The Wildcats are coached by Alex Fatovic, who's in his fifth season with the team. During the 2025 season, the Wildcats captured the first GLIAC Conference Tournament Championship in program history, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II National Championships. The team finished the season with an overall record of 9-5-6 and a third-place finish in the GLIAC conference. Fatovic oversaw four all-conference selections, six academic all-district selections, two D2CCA All-Midwest Region selections, four United Soccer Coaches All-Region team selections, and the programs' first GLIAC Commissioner's Award. Fatovic has a 22-31-16 all-time record as head coach.
