#10 Huskies Sweep Colgate with 4-3 Win

Hamilton, N.Y. - The #10 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (3-0-1, 0-0-0 NCHC) gained its first weekend sweep of the 2013-14 season with a 4-3 victory at Colgate University (2-4-1) on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Hamilton, N.Y.
The Huskies used an explosive first period to grab a 4-0 lead and then hung on to claim the victory over the Raiders.
SCSU rookie Niklas Nevalainen opened the night's scoring with a power play goal at 2:07 of the first. Sophomore defender Ethan Prow and sophomore forward Kalle Kossila added assists on the play.
The goal was Nevalainen's first collegiate goal and point in a Husky uniform. The points would continue to come of the defender from Finland at Colgate.
At 8:26 of the first, freshman Ryan Papa pushed his consecutive goal streak to two games with assists from sophomore forward David Morley and Nevalainen.
The Huskies then stretched their lead to 3-0 with an even strength goal by Kossila at 13:14 of the first. Nevalaine and Prow coined their second assists of the night on the play. The goal was Kossila's first of the 2013-14 season.
The game winner honors went to senior captain Nic Dowd, who added his second shorthanded GWG of the season at 16:02 of the first. Senior defenseman and team captain added the solo assist on the play. Dowd now has nine game winners in his career, which ranks ninth in the team records.
Colgate charged back with a power play goal at 7:49 of the second period by Kyle Baun on assists by Tylor Spink and Matt Borkowski.
Darcy Murphy posted Colgate's second goal of the night at 15:40 of the second and Baun added Colgate's third goal at 3:08 of the final period.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Raiders 37-30. The Huskies have now outshot their opponents 150-101 this season and have outshot their opponents in the last 10 games (dating back to the 2012-13 season).
On the power, SCSU was 1-of-3 and Colgate was 1-of-4. SCSU's Ryan Faragher charted 27 saves in the game and improved to 3-0-0 on the season. Eric Mihalik was the losing goalie with eight saves in the first 20 minutes of play. Spencer Finney ended the game for CU with 25 saves.
The Huskies will continue their 2013-14 season with a pair of games at North Dakota on Nov. 1-2.
