Green Bay, Wis. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team opened up their season in Green Bay, Wis. this afternoon as they took on the Phoenix of the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay in a 1 p.m. exhibition game.
The Huskies battled against division one UW-Green Bay, trailing by just one point at half time (31-32). A few second half runs for the Phoenix propelled them to a 74-63 victory over St. Cloud State.
The Huskies shot a respectable 43% from the field throughout the contest (48% in the first half, 38% in the second half). UW-Green Bay shot 36% from the field.
Senior guard Rachael Moen (Savage) and sophomore forward Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) led the way offensively for St. Cloud State, each finishing with 11 points.
Moen went three of four from three point range and dished out two assists. Petermann shot four of six from the field.
Freshman Kaytlin Kuefler grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
St. Cloud State lost the rebounding battle to UW-Green Bay by just one, 43-44.
Twelve St. Cloud State players got on the board during today's contest. There were four tied scores and five lead changes in the season opener.
The Huskies will return to action on Nov. 6 as they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on the University of St. Thomas.
