
#3/4 St. Cloud State to Host #7 Miami on Nov. 8-9

The #3/4 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (5-0-1,2-0-0 NCHC) will play its inaugural home games in the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference against #7 Miami University (5-2-1, 1-1-0 NCHC) this weekend. On Nov. 8, the Huskies will host the RedHawks at 7:37 p.m. and the game on Nov. 9 will begin at 7:07 p.m. Both games will be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. (5,371 cap./200x100).

HUSKY HEADLINERS:
NORTH STAR COLLEGE CUP: SCSU will play Minnesota in the first round of the inaugual North Star College Cup on Jan. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul at 7 p.m. The early game that day will feature UMD and Minnesota State, Mankato at 4 p.m. The consolation and championship game will take place on Jan. 25 at the Xcel. NCHC HONORS: St. Cloud State's Ryan Faragher was named the NCHC Goalie of the Week for his play at UND on Nov. 1-2. In the two games, Faragher notched 45 saves and allowed only two even-strength goals vs. #5/6 UND. Faragher is off to his best
start as a Husky. He is 5-0-0 this season with a 2.00 goals against
average and a .922 save rate. In his career, Faragher has charted 38 career wins, which ranks fifth in the team records. He also ranks ninth in the team records with 1,728 saves as a Husky. The Huskies have already earned four NCHC Player of the Week
awards in 2013-14.
SWEET SWEEP: SCSU maintained its unbeaten status with a pair of road wins at #5/6 North Dakota. On Nov. 1, the Huskies tallied a 3-2 win and then completed the NCHC sweep with a 3-1 victory on Nov. 2 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Huskies now own 5-0-1, 2-0-0 NCHC record in 2013-14...The two wins in Grand Forks, N.D. marked the first time since Jan. 27-28, 2006 that the Huskies have charted a series sweep at the Ralph Engelstad Arena...The 5-0-1 start in 2013-14 is the best start for St. Cloud State since the Huskies opened the 2003-04 season with an 8-0-1 record...these games were SCSU's inaugural games played in the NCHC... The Huskies came back twice to win games at UND this weekend. On Nov. 1, the Huskies trailed 1-0 heading into the third period before they erupted with three unanswered goals to gain the win. On Nov. 2, the Huskies trailed 1-0 going into the second period before adding two goals in the second period to earn the sweep.
WHEN IT COUNTS: SCSU senior captain Nic Dowd added his third game winner of the young season on Nov. 2 at UND. Dowd now ranks sixth in the team records with 10 career game winners along with Mark Hartigan (1999-02) and Jared Festler (2008-12). Joe Jensen (2002-06) and Ryan Lasch (2006-10) own the team record for game winners with 13 apiece... Nic Dowd scored one goal and two assists in the games at UND on Nov. 1-2. In his career, Dowd is moving closer to the team's 100-point club and he currently has 88 points (34g/54a) in 123 games played at SCSU.

THE DALY SHOW: Junior defender Tim Daly opened SCSU's scoring on Nov. 2 with his first goal of the 2013-14 season. This was Daly's third career goal at SCSU.
STORM ALERT: Rookie defender Ben Storm, a 2013 Colorado draft pick, posted his first collegiate point on Nov. 1 with an assist on Kalle Kossila's goal. At 6-6, Storm is the tallest player on the Husky roster this season.
SOLID SOPHOMORE: Sophomore Jonny Brodzinski, who led the nation's rookies last year with 22 goals, currently leads the Huskies in 2013-14 with five assists. He posted a pair of helpers during SCSU's 3-1 win at UND on Nov. 2.
HUSKY NOTES: Ryan Papa posted his first career assist on Nov. 1 at UND...Andrew Prochno scored his first goal of the season with the game winner on Nov. 1 at UND. In three seasons at SCSU, Prochno has 11 goals and 48 assists...SCSU ranks seventh in the nation on defense with a 2.00 goals allowed per game average...SCSU has outscored its opponents 19-12 this season, and the Huskies have outshot their opponents 190-137 in 2013-14.
NEW NAME: St. Cloud State announced on April 17, 2013 that it will rename its home arena in honor of Herb Brooks. A former Husky head coach during the 1986-87 season, Brooks played a key role in the Huskies' move to the Division I level. The arena will now be called the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. On second reference, pleae refer to the facility as the Brooks Center.
