Hot Shooting Huskies Down Minot State 92-85

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team matched up against Minot State University this evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play. The Huskies were on a roll, shooting 57% from the field and knocking down a record-setting 16 three-point baskets in the contest. The Huskies took down the Beavers in a 92-85 final score.Â

St. Cloud State improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC. Minot State suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in conference action.Â

St. Cloud State's 16 three-point baskets shattered the previous record (13) set during the 2004-05 season. Freshman guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) made seven of seven attempts from behind the arch, to set the new record for best three-point field goal percentage in a game (previous record was set by Sascha Hansen in 2004 and Kayla Rengel in 2006 who each went 5 of 5). MacDonald finished a perfect eight of eight from the field with 23 points for a new career-high.Â

Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) led all players with 25 points (ties career-high), shooting five of eight from three-point range and making all four shots at the line. Price also dished out five assists. Price is now just 24 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points.

Senior forward Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. Rachael Moen (Savage) was the final Husky to finish in double-figures, putting up 16 points (three of nine from three point range).

Both teams put on an impressive showing. There were seven lead changes and two tied scores before St. Cloud State took a 59-57 lead with 11:24 to go in the second half and held it for the remainder of the game.

Christina Boag led Minot State with 27 points. Teammates Carly Boag and Alisha Jones each finished with 21.Â

The Huskies shot 56% from the field and 57% from three-point range (16-28). Minot State shot 56% from the field and 60% from behind the arc (9-15).Â

St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow as they take on the University of Mary at 4 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. The Marauders (5-2 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC) defeated Minnesota Duluth 76-68 in NSIC action tonight.Â
