SCSU Women's Basketball Loses Battle to Winona State, 61-64

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team hosted Winona State University this evening in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up. The Huskies fell to the Warriors with a final score of 61-64.
The Huskies fall to 12-9 overall and 8-9 in conference play. Winona State improves to 16-5 overall and 12-5 in the NSIC.
At the half, St. Cloud State trailed Winona 25-34. The Warriors held their largest lead of the evening of 12 points with 19:54 left in the second. The Huskies would take the lead with under three minutes left in the second as Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) made both free throw shots (61-60). The Huskies just weren't able to come out on top as Winona State's Connor Nagle finished the game with two good free throws (64-61). St. Cloud State shot 38.3% from the field compared to Winona's 41.3%. The Huskies committed 11 turnovers compared to Winona State's 16. The Warriors outrebounded St. Cloud State 36-31.
St. Cloud State sophomore guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) led the Huskies with 16 points. MacDonald made four of six from the three-point range and tallied three assists.
Guards Carley Jeffery (Cambridge, Wis.) and Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) both finished with 10 points. Jeffery made four of eight from the field. Nooker finished with seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks for the Huskies.
Nichole Wittman (Hutchinson, Wis.) finished with a team-high nine rebounds. Wittman recorded seven points on the evening and made three of six from the field.
Alexis Foley led all players finishing with 21 points for the Warriors.
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow evening as they take on the Peacocks of Upper Iowa at 4 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. Upper Iowa University is currently 6-15 overall and 4-13 in the NSIC. The Peacocks fell to Minnesota Duluth this evening with a final score of 62-74.
