SCSU Women Defeat Upper Iowa in Double Overtime, 112-104

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team battled Upper Iowa University in Halenbeck Hall this evening. The Huskies defeated the Peacocks in double overtime with a final score of 112-104.
St. Cloud State improves their record to 13-9 overall and 9-9 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa falls to 6-16 overall and 4-14 in conference play.
The Huskies trailed the Peacocks by one after the first half (46-47). St. Cloud State then overcame a nine point deficit which was aided by sophomore guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) who scored 12 of her 17 points after the intermission, shooting four of six from the field and a perfect four of four from the free throw line. The Huskies tied up the score (95-95) to go into overtime. Senior guard Carley Jeffery (Cambridge, Wis.) recorded 11 points for St. Cloud State in overtime making three 3's in this evenings second overtime. SCSU shot 50% from the field and 85.7% from the free throw line. Upper Iowa shot 50.7% from the field and 75.9% from the line. The Huskies forced 15 turnover this evening compared to their own 13. St. Cloud State outrebound the Peacocks 47-37. Throughout tonight s match there were 13 lead changes and eight tied scores.
Five St. Cloud State women's basketball players scored in the double digits this evening.
Senior guard Carley Jeffery (Cambridge, Wis.) set a career-high this evening finishing with 24 points. Jeffery made 6 of 11 from the three-point range. Jeffery also tied her career-high of six 3's this evening.
Junior forward Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led St. Cloud State with 25 points. LeCaptain recorded a double-double this evening collecting 13 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with 17 points. MacDonald had four rebounds and tallied four assists.
Sophomore guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) scored 16 points for the Huskies. Nooker finished with three rebounds and four assists.
The final St. Cloud State player to score in the double digits this evening was junior forward Nicole Wittman (Hutchinson, Wis.) with 12 points. Wittman made five of eight from the field and collected nine rebounds.
Lauren Buck led all players recording a double-double with 26 points and 16 rebounds.
St. Cloud State will return to action next weekend as they travel to Aberdeen, SD and Moorhead, Minn. The Huskies will take on Northern State University on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. and Minnesota State University, Moorhead at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14. Northern State is currently 19-5 overall and 13-5 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead stands at 12-10 overall and 11-7 in conference play. The Huskies have defeated both Northern State (62-54) and MSU Moorhead (79-62) previously this season.
