BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – St. Cloud State senior jumper Patience Yalartai placed seventh among all competitors nationally to become an NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-American in the triple jump for the first time in her career on Saturday, March 11, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Yalartai recorded a 12.22m/40'1.25" on her second jump to be one of nine finalists for the event with the top eight finishers achieving NCAA DII Track & Field All-American status.
This season, Yalartai also was a USTAFCCCA All-Region selection by finishing in the top five in the Central Region and was NSIC All-Conference with her event win in the championships last month. She won the triple jump a total of four times during indoor season.
This is the third year that Yalartai competed in the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships in the triple jump. She became the first SCSU NCAA DII Indoor All-American since Becky Schmidt earned the distinction in the long jump during the 2015 season.
The winner of the triple jump was Rellie Kaputin of West Texas with a jump of 13.09/42'11.50".
The St. Cloud State outdoor track & field program begins its season on April 1 at the Hamline Invite in St. Paul, Minn.
