Scouting the Mavericks: MSU comes off of their first weekend of WCHA play and, like the Huskies, were swept by their opponent. Mankato dropped a 4-0 game to Ohio State Friday, Oct. 12 and missed a close 2-1 OT game against the Buckeyes on Saturday. The lone goal scored in the series by MSU came from sophomore Tristen Truax. The Mavericks' leading point scorer is freshman defender Anna Wilgren (1g-2a).
All-time series: Historically, the Huskies and Mavericks are quite evenly match in WCHA play; St. Cloud leads the overall record by just eight games (39-31-11). With coach Rud behind the bench, the Huskies are 11-2-3 against MSU. SCSU swept their latest series against Mankato on January 5 and 6 last winter. Sophomore Laura Kluge led St. Cloud State in point scoring against Mankato last season with eight points in four games (2g-6a).
Freshman Finn Finding Success: Freshman forward Jenniina Nylund had a great series for the second weekend in a row, scoring two of St. Cloud's three goals and had an assist on the third goal by defenseman Taylor Wemple against Minnesota. Nylund is now the number one ranked freshman scorer in the WCHA (2-5-7) and is tied in the number six spot for overall point leaders in the league. Nylund is one of two leading freshmen in the nation in point scoring, each with seven points.Â
Dominant Defender: Sophomore Taylor Wemple had a three-point weekend(1g-2a) scoring her second goal of the season Friday to open up St. Cloud's scoring and assisted on the other two goals against the Gophers in the series. She is tied for fourth in the WCHA in defenseman scoring and ranks eight in blocked shots.Â
Silky Tylke: Senior Julia Tylke continues to rack up assists on the score sheet; adding on two more this past weekend. Tylke is the number one in assist scoring in the WCHA with nine points in six games. She has the most points in the league from players that have not yet scored a goal this season. Tylke is the current SCSU point leader with 69 points (31g-38a).Â
