Huskies split road series against Mankato and get first conference win

Mankato, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team (3-5-0, 1-3-0 WCHA) defeated the Minnesota State University Mavericks (3-3-0, 1-3-0 WCHA) 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Verizon Center in Mankato, Minnesota.
The game started out in similar fashion to the previous night with St. Cloud taking a 1-0 lead into the second period. SCSU's Janna Haeg scored her first goal of the season at 6:14 of the first period, assisted by Hannah Potrykus and Emma Bigham.
The Mavericks' McKenzie Sederberg tied up the game at 14:37 of the second, and the teams left the ice in a 1-1 tie after two periods of play.
The Huskies' Hallie Theodosopoulos clinched the win and SCSU's first WCHA victory just 38 seconds into the third period. Her goal was assisted by captain Kayla Friesen and freshman defender Taytum Geier. St. Cloud showed a strong presence in the defensive zone through the rest of the game and secured the 2-1 win.
St. Cloud's Emma Polusny made 38 saves between the pipes for SCSU; MSU's Abigail Levy made 21 saves against the Huskies. SCSU went 0-3 on the power play and 1-0 on the penalty kill.
