
Women's Hockey Back at Home to Play WCHA Rival No. 5 Minnesota Duluth

Scouting UMD: Minnesota Duluth comes off of a two-game sweep of Bemidji last weekend with a 6-2 win in game one and shutout Bemidji 2-0 in game two in Duluth. Goaltender Maddie Rooney made 27 saves for the Bulldogs in Friday's game and 24 saves for her first collegiate shutout since Feb. 23, 2017 (a 6-0 win over St. Cloud State University WCHA quarterfinals). Goal scorers for the Bulldog's included Jalyn Elmes, Anneke Linser, Gabbie Hughes, Ashton Bell, and Naomi Rogge who had a five point weekend (4g-1a).
Duluth is 4-3-1 on the season with a 2-3-1 conference record.Â
All-time Series: The Huskies went 1-2-2 against the Bulldogs in 2017-18, and UMD leads 64-12-6 in the all-time record in the battle of the dogs.Â
In their last appearance against UMD, the teams tied 1-1 in a Wednesday night matchup in St. Cloud Jan. 31, 2018 where the Bulldogs snatched the extra point in the standings with a 1-0 shootout win.
Previous to that, the two teams had a memorable matchup Jan. 20, 2018 playing an outdoor game in St. Cloud for Hockey Day Minnesota. The final score was another 1-1 tie, but the Huskies came out on top with a shootout winner from then senior captain Brittney Anderson and a strong net presence from Janine Alder.
Last Week: The Huskies split a road series with the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks last weekend; St. Cloud had a 1-3 loss Friday, Oct. 19 and a 2-1 win Saturday, Oct. 20. Goal scorers were Julia Tylke, Janna Haeg, and Hallie Theodosopoulos respectively. Tylke and Haeg scored their first goals of the season; it was Hallie's sixth goal of the year. SCSU totaled 50 SOG in the series and the Huskies' two starting goaltenders made 69 saves combined (Alder 31, Polusny 38). St. Cloud went 0-4 on the power play and 4-0 on the penalty kill.
SCSUÂ is 3-5-0Â in the season and has a 1-3-0 WCHAÂ record.Â
Shot Blockers: St. Cloud State ranks second in the nation for team saves with 340 this season. Goaltenders Emma Polusny (So.) and Janine Alder (Jr.) have split time evenly playing four games each. Polusny is 2-2-0 and Alder is 1-3-0 on the season.
Polusny to Team USA: SCSU sophomore goaltender Emma Polusny was selected to the U.S. Women's National Team and will travel to play in the Four Nations Cup Nov. 6-10 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Polusny has an 8-12-3 record in her two seasons at SCSU with a .928 SV% and 2.44 GAA. She is one of six WCHA players that will fill the Team USA roster.
