
Huskies fall to Minnesota Duluth on the road

DULUTH, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University Huskies women's hockey team (9-21-2, 4-17-0 WCHA) were defeated 4-2 by the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (13-12-2, 9-8-2-2 WCHA) at Amsoil Arena Friday, Feb. 8.
The Bulldogs got off to a quick lead in the first against the Huskies. McKenzie Hewett and Sydney Brodt each scored one to head into the intermission 2-0.
UMD added another just minutes into the second period, but St. Cloud would respond by breaking the shutout attempt. Freshman Jenniina Nylund scored her seventh goal of the season on an SCSU power play. Nylund was assisted by Kayla Friesen and Hannah Potrykus.
Regaining their three-goal lead, UMD scored another less than two minutes from Nylund's goal. The Huskies went into the third period with some momentum after Julia Tylke cut the Bulldog's lead in half with 38 second remaining in the period, assisted by Emma Bigham. St. Cloud trailed 2-4 going into the final period of play.
The third period saw no scoring change and the Bulldogs beat the Huskies 4-2 in the first round of the Battle of the Dogs in Duluth.
St. Cloud State's goaltender Emma Polusny stopped 43 shots in the game; the Bulldog's Maddie Rooney had 21 saves. Final shots on goal from today's game were SCSU 23, UMD 47. St. Cloud went 1-2 on the power play and 1-1 on the penalty kill.
The Huskies play the Bulldogs again tomorrow at Amsoil Arena at 4:07 p.m.
