DULUTH, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University Huskies women's hockey team (10-21-2, 5-17-0 WCHA) battled adversary and came back after yesterday's matchup to beat the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (13-13-2, 9-9-2-2 WCHA) 3-2 at Amsoil Arena Saturday, Feb. 9.

The Bulldogs may have scored first, but less than a minute later the Huskies would answer with a tying goal. Jenniina Nylund scored her second goal in as many nights to put SCSU 1-1 with UMD at the end of the first period. Nylund was assisted on her eighth goal of the season by Julia Tylke and Taytum Geier.

In the second period, the Huskies took their first lead of the weekend series. Junior forward Kayla Friesen put SCSU up 2-1 at 6:31 of the period.

At 17:41 of the period, UMD's Jalyn Elmes was called on a checking from behind play and was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct. The Huskies would look to make the most of this five-minute power play.

At 2:37 of the third period, Taylor Wemple made a power play goal for St. Cloud to give the Huskies a two-goal lead. Duluth would score one more goal for a final score in tonight's game of 3-2 St. Cloud.

St. Cloud State's goaltender Janine Alder stopped 51 shots in the game; the Bulldog's Emma Soderberg had 26 saves. Final shots on goal from today's game were SCSU 29, UMD 53. St. Cloud went 1-2 on the power play and 1-1 on the penalty kill.

The women's hockey team returns home to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Feb. 15-16 at 6:07 p.m. and 3:07 p.m. to face the Bemidji State Beavers in the Huskies last regular season games of the year.
