ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University Huskies women's hockey team (10-22-2, 5-18-0 WCHA) fell 2-4 to the Bemidji State University Beavers (12-17-2, 9-10-2 WCHA) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday, Feb. 15 in the first game of the Huskies' last regular season series of the year.
"I give Bemidji a lot of credit; they were in it from start to finish and they showed us how to work,"said Huskies' Head Coach Eric Rud.
Despite taking the early period lead, by the end of the first SCSU trailed BSU 1-2. Laura Kluge scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Julia Tylke and Jenniina Nylund at 1:48 into the game.
The Beaver's Jacqueline and Haley scored a pair of goals in the stretch of eight minutes to tie the game and put BSU up by one respectively.
Halfway through the second period, junior captain Kayla Friesen tied the game for the Huskies and was assisted by linemates Hallie Theodosopoulos and Hannah Potrykus. SCSU's celebration was stopped quickly though, just over a minute later from Friesen's goal Bemidji would regain their lead, 3-2, and take that into the third period at the National Hockey Center.
"We let them march down and take that [third] goal," said Rud.
The only scoring change in the third was an empty-net goal at 19:12 of the period by Bemidji's Abby Halluska. The final score of Friday's game was 4-2 Bemidji State.
St. Cloud State's goaltender Janine Alder stopped 26 shots in the game; the Beaver's Lauren Bench had 10 saves. Final shots on goal from today's game were SCSU 12, BSU 30. St. Cloud went 0-3 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.
The Huskies will rematch against the Beavers tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 16, at 3:07 p.m. in their last game of the 2018-19 season.
