
Track and field has strong showing at Minnesota Twilight

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - The first of three meets this week for the St. Cloud State Track and Field Team was the Minnesota Women's Twilight at the University of Minnesota. The group was fortunate to be a part of the debut competition on the brand-new track and field facility at the University of Minnesota. St. Cloud State finished by taking many top finishes, and having excellent personal accomplishments throughout the competition.
Abby Jungwirth took first place in the Woman's Triple Jump with a mark of 11.24M (36'10.5"). Teammate Maya Taylor took second place behind Abby with a mark of 11.05M (36'3"). They also had a successful day in Woman's Long Jump with Maya taking third place and Abby taking fourth place.
Sophomore Emma Baynes got second place in the Woman's 200M Dash, and ran a new personal best with a time of 25.13 seconds.
Junior Bridget Brown took second place in the Woman's 400M Hurdles, and ran a lifetime best in the event with a time of 1:05.34.
The Huskies also competed well in throws, where Dominique Buechel took seventh place with a mark of 40.61M (131'9") in the Woman's Discus and Annie Falardeau took fifth place in the Woman's Shot Put with a mark of 12.68M (41'7.25"). Teammate Dacoda Zimmerman earned a sixth-place finish with a mark of 12.63M (41'5.25"). Lauren Julian also added a new personal best in the Woman's Hammer Throw with a mark of 41.09 (134'10").
Another top finish for the Huskies came from Jocelyn Johnson, who finished in fourth place in the Woman's 100M Hurdles with a time of 16.08 seconds.
A great meet for the team, and with the conference championships quickly approaching quality competitions like this are exactly what the team needs. Stay tuned later this week as the team travels to Moorhead for the Ron Masanz Classic on Friday, April 26th and Saturday, April 27th, as well as the NSIC Multi Event Conference Championships on Sunday, April 28th and Monday, April 29th.
