A three-goal second period tripped up St. Cloud State (1-2-0, 1-2-0 WCHA) as they were shut out 4-0 by No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth (3-2-0, 3-2-0 WCHA) on the road Friday. The Huskies were outshot by a 38-11 margin.
Olivia Hanson and Emma Bigham each led SCSU with two shots on goal, and Hanson added a pair of blocks. Olivia Cvar won a team-best 10 faceoffs at a 50% rate while Laura Kluge went 6-5 in the circle. The Huskies' special teams defense played well, killing off both of Minnesota-Duluth's power play chances.
Minnesota-Duluth opened the scoring in the first with an Anna Klein goal at the 8:16 mark. The second period began with a pair of Naomi Rogge goals at the 1:19 and 3:03 marks, then Clara Van Wieren added the final tally with just under 11 minutes to play.
Emma Polusny entered the game in relief of Sanni Ahola midway through the second period and stopped all 17 shots she faced.
St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth wrap up their series Saturday afternoon at 3:07 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast live on FloHockey and 97.5 RadioX.
