St. Cloud State women's hockey (1-3-0, 1-3-0 WCHA) will close the 2020 portion of their schedule this Thursday and Friday as they travel to face Bemidji State (0-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) at the Sanford Center. The Huskies and Beavers will open the series at 6:07 p.m. CST Thursday with a 3:07 p.m. CST start time Friday.
Bemidji State leads the all-time series with a 47-39-9 mark. Last season, SCSU went 1-4-0 against the Beavers. The Huskies split with Bemidji State in St. Cloud on February 14-15, falling 3-0 and winning 1-0 in overtime. Emma Polusny recorded a 41-save shutout while Olivia Cvar scored the game-winner in OT. Across the season series Klara Hymlarova scored two goals while Laura Kluge added a pair of assists.
Scouting the Huskies
SCSU was swept on the road last weekend against No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth. The Huskies were shut out 4-0 on Friday and fell 5-1 Saturday. UMD outshot SCSU 93-32, with 12 of the Huskies' shots coming in the third period of Saturday's game. St. Cloud State hits the road again this Thursday to take on Bemidji State in a two-game series. St. Cloud State's penalty kill shut out UMD over the weekend and has killed an impressive 15-of-16 power plays through the season's first four games. Senior netminder Emma Polusny made her season debut last weekend, stopping all 17 shots she faced on Friday then recorded 50 saves in Saturday's loss. "Po" led the NCAA with 1108 saves last season and has posted a career .920 save percentage and a 3.00 goals-against average while earning Third Team All-WCHA honors in 2017-18. Junior Jenniina Nylund scored the Huskies' lone goal on Saturday, her first of 2020-21. She has provided SCSU with 35 points in two seasons, including a 21-point freshman campaign in 2018-19 that saw her net eight goals and tack on 13 assists. Nylund has scored a game-winning goal in each of her two collegiate seasons.
Scouting the Beavers
The Beavers have yet to play this season due to their November 20-21 and December 4-5 series against SCSU and Minnesota State respectively being postponed. BSU was selected fifth in the 2020-21 WCHA Coaches' Poll entering the season. Senior Clair DeGeorge is the leading returning Beaver point-getter after going 7-15-22 a season ago. Bemidji State lost starting goaltender Lauren Bench to the University of Minnesota as a grad transfer.
