GLOUCHESTER, MASS. - The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) once again recognized the top men's hockey players not only on the ice but in the classroom as well. Tuesday morning, the organization announced 571 Division I college hockey players earned Krampade All-American Scholar honors, including four from the St. Cloud State University men's hockey team.
Former defenseman Clark Kuster (St. Louis, Mo. / George Washington) along with current Huskies Tyler Anderson (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Glenlawn Collegiate), Chase Brand (Nevis, Minn. / Park Rapids Area) and Will Hammer (St. Cloud, Minn. / Cathedral) earned the prestigious honor Tuesday morning. In order to be eligible for All-American Scholar status, student-athletes must attain a 3.75 grade point average (GPA) during the fall semester and play in at least 40% of the team's competitions during the year. A small number of waivers were granted for injured players and backup goalies.
"These are exceptional individuals," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement while contributing at the NCAA Division I level."
All four players from St. Cloud State were first time All-American Scholars and are the first Huskies to earn the honor since the 2016-17 season. In total, 41 student-athletes were recognized from the NCHC. All eight schools had at least one representative on the list, while North Dakota and Omaha led the way with eight All-American Scholars each.
