ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Soccer dropped Saturday's contest against Upper Iowa by a 5-2 final. Despite knotting the game at 1-1 in the 17th minute thanks to Andres Garcia's eighth goal of the season, the Huskies saw Upper Iowa tack on two more in the first half then add a pair in the final 45. Emmanuel Iwe scored his fifth goal of the season in the second half and added an assist on Garcia's marker. The Peacocks led in shots on goal, 10-6.

TURNING POINT

Less than a minute after Andres Garcia's game-tying goal, Upper Iowa struck right back to make it 2-1 then added another goal late in the first half, going on to hang on for the 5-2 decision.

• Iwe and Eddie Saydee assisted on their fourth markers of the season.

• Vukota Mastilovic logged all 90 minutes on the pitch.

"I was pleased with some parts of our effort today. Obviously, bleeding five goals is sloppy and unacceptable, but our attacking and creating of chances was once again exciting and dangerous. I thought Upper Iowa was terrific in converting their chances. They had a composure and maturity we don't yet have. Andres Garcia and Emmanuel Iwe continue to be our danger men, but as we enter by the second half of the GLIAC season, we need other guys to step up. Giving up the third goal before halftime was a real killer. A 1-2 halftime talk is vastly different than a 1-3 discussion. Some guys are still adapting to the expectations and high standards of DII. Every game is an absolute battle; if you're not prepared you get punished."

The Huskies close their seven-game homestand with a pair of home matches against Purdue Northwest and Davenport on Friday and Sunday, October 15 and 17.
