ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Three St. Cloud State Men's Soccer student-athletes have been recognized by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for their outstanding efforts in the program's inaugural campaign. Freshmen Emmanuel Iwe and Andres Garcia both earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors while graduate student defender Eddie Saydee picked up an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC nod.
Eddie Saydee served as the Huskies' anchor on the back line, captaining the defense in his final collegiate season. The grad student started all 17 matches he played and logged 1295 minutes on the pitch. While primarily directing the assembly on defense, Saydee chipped in three assists on the offensive effort.
"Eddie brought us tremendous experience, stability and maturity that was great for us," said head coach Sean Holmes, "I'm glad that coaches in the conference recognize his leadership."
Andres Garcia led the Huskies with eight goals in his debut season, totaling 16 points over 16 games. He shot .679 on 19 chances while directing SCSU's offense as a gifted attacker.
"Garcia really exploded onto the scene and scored some terrific goals," Holmes commented, "His upside is enormous. I'm excited to see how he progresses."
Emmanuel Iwe started all 18 games, scoring six goals and adding four assists to tie Garcia for the team lead with 16 points. The talented freshman forward put 21 shots on goal with a .477 shooting percentage.
"I thought on any given day E-man was the most explosive and exciting attacking player in the conference," said Holmes, "He impacted the game every time he touched the ball."
