Bouley and Buechel’s big days pace Huskies at River City Rumble
4/24/2021 9:35:00 PM | Women's Track & Field
Cheresa Bouley won the 1500 Meter and Dominique Buechel recorded both a career-best and an event win as St. Cloud State Track & Field competed at the River City Rumble in Winona, Minnesota on Saturday.
"It was chilly and windy one, but we managed it pretty well and I am very pleased with the effort and improvements by our group," said head coach Sam Kettenhofen, "We had plenty of takeaways and will hopefully see continued improvement along with some sunshine at next week's meet."
Three Huskies recorded career-bests and two earned event championships despite battling atypical late-April conditions.
"It is the time of year when you are looking for things to come together," Kettenhofen continued, "That can be hard to find when the weather presents conditions like it did today, but we were still able to figure some of those things out. The Discus, Hammer, 1500m, High Jump, and 400H all come to mind as areas where growth happened."
Field Events
Dominique Buechel began her day by taking seventh in the Hammer Throw with a career-best 48.32m toss, then continued her fantastic Discus season by winning the event with a 49.27m mark. High Jumpers Jocelyn Johnson, Shantelle Des Marais, Claire Shea and Julia Rowles all placed top-six, occupying the three-through-six finishes.
Gracie Elsenpeter and Emma Gauert rounded out the outstanding SCSU Field effort by placing third and fifth respectively in the Pole Vault.
Track Events
Johnson opened the Huskies Track events by placing sixth in the 100 Hurdle Preliminaries with a 15.97-second qualifying mark. She went on to place sixth in the Finals.
Cheresa Bouley came out on top of a 30-athlete field by running the 1500 Meter in a career-best 4:42.84. In the 400 Meter and 800 Meter, Cassidy Lackovic (1:00.81) and Katelin Prinsen (2:39.56) respectively each placed top-ten.
Makayla Rice gave SCSU another personal best with a sixth-place finish in the 400 Hurdles, finishing in 1:04.67.
Up Next
St. Cloud State returns to action next Saturday at the NSIC & Friends Outdoor Challenge in Mankato, Minnesota.
"We will be down at Mankato next Saturday for the NSIC & Friends Outdoor Challenge," concluded Kettenhofen, "I am very excited for the competition and what our athletes can accomplish down there. I say it often, but meets like this weekend and next present opportunities, we just have to continue taking advantage of them."
