ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State men's soccer fell 4-2 to Saginaw Valley State on a chilly Friday night at Husky Stadium. Philip Caputo scored both of the Huskies goals during the match while Gage Steiner made five saves. Caputo is the third Husky to score a multi-goal game.Â
TURNING POINT
The match was held at a 2-2 draw until 74th minute of the game when Jonathan Monney of the Cardinals netted a goal for a 3-2 lead. Saginaw Valley scored again at the 82nd minute to close out the match.Â

QUOTABLES - St. Cloud State Head Coach Sean Holmes
"Anytime you get to compete against a top five nationally ranked opponent at your place, its a wonderful opportunity. I thought we were a little overwhelmed by the moment in the first 10-15 minutes of the game and giving up that first goal in the 8th minute which dug us a little bit into a hole. We responded briefly before conceding the second goal and at that point I was a little bit concerned. The introduction of Philip Caputo and his two goals really turned the game around. They were a product of a collective effort and a good fighting spirit. We knew the second would be tough. Saginaw Valley State coming off three consecutive ties were never going to be content with a fourth so we knew they were going to push. We almost put ourselves ahead very early again by Philip Caputo and weathered the storm there after. The third goal was a bit of back breaker. The fourth happened because we had to push to try to tie up the game so we were always going to be a little exposed at the back. As we put this game in the context of our development as a team over the season and a program in year two, these sort of games will make us better in the long run. I was pleased with how we competed. That was the important lesson of the night. It will be nice to have a couple days off and then get ready for UW-Parkside and Northern Michigan next weekend. I thought Gage Steiner was terrific. Nolan Pratumwon again has emerged as one of the strongest players in the conference I feel. There was some real quality from Miguel Konde Gwo, Owen Worsdell, and Mika Folstad going forward. All in all, a good night. The result wasn't what we wanted but I feel we are still making progress."
