
Huskies host USF, SMSU in final home weekend of regular season

ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The season goes so fast, doesn't it? After nearly two full months, the St. Cloud State University softball team is hosting its final (official) home weekend of the 2022 season, as the Huskies are set to play two final Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheaders. St. Cloud State will host Sioux Falls for its annual Sexual Assault Awareness games on Saturday before Sunday's Senior Day doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota State.Â
If Mother Nature cooperates, Saturday's doubleheader against the Cougars is set to start at 1:00 p.m. with game two to follow. The doubleheader will serve as the Huskies annual Sexual Assault Awareness games, and the team will accepting donations for the Sexual Violence Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The organization provides free confidential and inclusive support for all victims of sexual violence and assault, which includes 24-hour crisis support, medical advocacy, support groups, counseling and educational training.Â
St. Cloud State will honor its seniors on Sunday as the team hosts the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Selke Field. The Huskies will honor their three fifth year seniors, Haley McFarlane (Swisher, Iowa / Cedar Rapids Prairie), Kylie Thomsen (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Elk Grove Village) and Brooke Bowlin (Chaska, Minn. / Holy Family), along with SMSU's senior between games one and two.

Here are the five things to know before this weekend's NSIC doubleheaders:
222 - McFarlane, Thomsen and Bowlin have certainly left their mark in St. Cloud State softball history. The trio has appeared in 222 games in their Husky careers, compiling an overall record of 147-75 with a 71-35 mark in NSIC play. They additionally appeared in three consecutive NSIC Tournaments (the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and look to make it four straight this upcoming season.Â
124 - Bowlin, in particular, set multiple program records in her career at St. Cloud State, primarily on the base paths. The senior outfielder has 124 stolen bases to her name and broke the single-game, single-season and career stolen base record before her junior season. Bowlin holds all three records by a landslide, as she broke Abby Bunnell's single-season stolen base record as a sophomore with 38 in 2019. She additionally holds the record for single-game stolen bases (4) and career stolen bases (124) and was named First Team All-NSIC and NFCA First Team All-Region in 2021.Â
.309/.627 - McFarlane had a season to remember in 2018, earning Second Team All-NSIC honors as a DH after hitting .309 with 34 hits in 110 at bats. Of her 34 hits, eight were doubles and nine were home runs, and she additionally tallied 69 total bases and 40 RBI as a freshman. As a fifth year senior, McFarlane is putting up career numbers, as she's tallied career highs in batting average (.333), hits (40), at bats (120), runs (25) and walks (15).Â
86 - Thomsen proved she was a dual threat, both at the plate and in the circle, throughout her St. Cloud State career. In five seasons, Thomsen appeared in 114 total games, including 84 as a pitcher. In 347.0 innings pitched, Thomsen has compiled a career ERA of 3.63 with six shoutouts, 196 strikeouts and a win-loss record of 28-22.
14 - On an unrelated note, Raven Vanden Langenberg (Seymour, Wis. / Seymour) continues to break records as the Huskies lead off hitter. The senior shortstop has been plunked 14 times this season and already broke the program record for single-game hit by pitch (3) and single season hit by pitch (14) with 10 games remaining on the schedule. Vanden Langenberg additionally ranks sixth in the nation in hit by pitch and 15th in hit by pitch per game.Â
