Duo earns first career all-region accolades, first time multiple Huskies have been honored (and named to first team) since 2021
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 20 St. Cloud State Softball had two student-athletes named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region Team, as announced by the organization on Friday. Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) were both selected to the first team for their first-ever all-region honors. It is the first time since 2021 that multiple Huskies have earned NFCA All-Region honors and that was also the last time SCSU had multiple first team selections.
Last week, Clark became the Huskies first-ever Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-NSIC Selection, one of just four Husky pitchers to earn multiple All-NSIC honors and one of nine players to be named to the All-NSIC First Team in their career. She was also the lone Husky to earn NSIC weekly honors this season after being named Pitcher of the Week on April 21.
The Winneconne, Wisconsin native has gone 22-6 over 32 appearances/29 starts (181 IP), logging 18 complete games with seven solo shutouts. She owns a 1.59 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP and has held batters to a mere .184 batting average and recorded 155 strikeouts to just 50 walks.
As of May 10, Clark ranked No. 4 in WHIP, No. 9 in ERA, No. 9 in hits allowed/7 inn., No. 15 in shutouts, No. 17 in wins and No. 35 – strikeouts among all DII pitchers. Among Northern Sun pitchers, she ranked No. 1 in wins, ERA, WHIP and hits allowed/7 inn., No. 2 in shutouts, No. 5 in strikeouts, No. 6 in K/BB ratio and No. 9 in K/7 inn.
Weiss, a first time All-NSIC First Team selection and first time NSIC All-Defensive Team honoree, leads the Huskies in many statistical categories. So far this season, she has slashed .374/.419/.621 (1.040 OPS) with 77 hits including 29 extra base hits (17 doubles, two triples and 10 home runs). She has drove in 60 runs and scored 43 more herself.
As of May 10, the Forest Lake, Minnesota native ranked No. 21 in RBIs, No. 22 in hits and No. 29 in total bases among all DII hitters. Among conference batters, she ranks No. 1 in hits and RBIs, No. 2 in total bases and RBIs/game and No. 5 in doubles.
On defense, Weiss has posted 383 putouts and 24 assists with just two errors in 409 chances for a spectacular fielding percentage of .995 while splitting time behind the plate and at first base. She has thrown out 36% of the runners that have tried to steal a base on her (9-of-25) and has been part of 10 double plays.
The Huskies just completed a historic regular season and NSIC Tournament run. SCSU reached the 40-win mark for just the ninth time (second straight season) in the program's 57-year history and won the program's first-ever share of a NSIC Regular Season Championship after winning a program record 26 NSIC games. The Huskies also received their first national ranking since 2004 and set program records for all-conference honorees and all-defensive team selections. In the tournament, SCSU advanced to its first semifinal during the single elimination era (since 2024) and its first ever NSIC Tournament Championship Game. With their semifinals win, the Huskies also tied the program record for wins in a season, with 46. SCSU was selected for its 11th-ever NCAA Tournament and first since 2019.
The Huskies dropped their first NCAA Central Region Tournament game to (4) No. 9 Southern Arkansas, 9-2 on Thursday and play the No. 8 seed Augustana (30-27, 19-11 NSIC) in an elimination game at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at the Pat Lipira Softball Complex (Missouri Southern) in Joplin, Missouri.
