Arason to Finish Impressive Season at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Arason will compete in the Heptathlon on Thursday and Friday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Track & Field senior Hannah Arason (Grand Forks, N.D.) will wrap up her final season of collegiate track & field this weekend, as she is set to compete in the heptathlon at the 2022 NCAA D-II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Allendale, Mich. The heptahlon is scheduled to take place Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27 at the GVSU Track & Field Stadium on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
Arason will close her senior campaign and collegiate track career this weekend, and in one short year she has made her mark for the Huskies. She was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Newcomer of the Year on May 18 for her performances over the 2022 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Arason is the first Husky in program history to earn Newcomer of the Year honors from the NSIC and does so after a superb season competing in the conference's multi events. At the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Arason earned All-Conference honors in two events and was crowned the conference champion in heptathlon. Fueled by personal record performances and top-5 finishes in all events, Arason passed Concordia-St. Paul's Arika Robinson on the final day of competition to claim the conference title with 5,205 points, becoming the first St. Cloud State student athlete to win the prestigious event since rejoining the NSIC in 2009. She additionally finished third in javelin and scored 18 of the Huskies' 26 team points at the championship meet.
Entering the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Arason currently ranks sixth in the nation in the heptathlon thanks to her score of 5,205 points. While she did not qualify for the event, Arason ranked 26th in the nation in javelin with her throw of 44.24m (145-2) at the NSIC outdoor meet.
In addition to her strong outdoor season, Arason earned All-Region honors for her performance in pentathlon during the indoor track and field season. Entering the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in mid-March, Arason held the sixth-best mark in Division II at 3,713 points, nearly 500 points over the NCAA Provisional mark. Due to injury, she was unable to compete at either the NSIC Indoor Track and Field and NCAA Championships in the event.
Prior to her time at SCSU, Arason spent four seasons at D-I Minnesota, where she scored in multi-events at both the 2021 Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor Championships, finishing seventh in the pentathlon (3,569 points) and fifth in the heptathlon (5,303 points).
