QUOTING KETTENHOFEN
"I'm excited for the weekend! It'll be good to just get back to competing. We were off last weekend, took the opportunity to train, rest and recovery. As we go through the season, it's always nice to have a couple built-in down times for the athletes. Their schedules are so busy we can utilize that in a couple of different ways - part of it is recovery and being cognizant. We're looking to get back to Mankato and compete well. It will be a bigger meet this time around, so we should have some good competition. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do!"
"As you go through a season, some of the most important things you can plan is rest and recovery. Looking back at some historical things with how we've done in the third week of January in years past, it just seemed like the best option for us to take the opportunity to train and set ourselves up a little bit better for the rest of the season. We are getting over some illness, some injuries, trying to stay healthy, and it gives you some more time to get some extra work in over the course of the week. Bulid in another recovery day, do some more things in terms of your training plan. It's nice to have that a little earlier in the season before we get into the heart of the year."
"As a group, we've been training well here for a while. I'm looking forward to seeing that pop up in competitions and performances here soon. I think Greta in the 5K has a good opportunity, she's also running in the DMR and the Mile which is always fun for her - a little bit shorter, a little bit faster. Brooklyn has been training really, really well in the 400 for a while - she'll run two of them this weekend, one in a relay. Parker and Destiny have been training a lot better in the horizontals, so it'll be nice just to give them another meet. It's a bit of a rhythm event so we have to keep them going, it's been pretty good lately."
"It's different for everybody. You have your group of athletes that has National meet aspirations, and you have to set things up to make sure they can do that. For some of the jumpers and other athletes, that's where their eyes are. Parker was an All-American last year, so a lot of it is setting her up to do that again in the Triple Jump and quite honestly the Long Jump as well. Paola has been to the National meet in the High Jump, so we're looking to set things up even now to hit some of those bars. Some of the athletes are in a little bit different competitive spot, where we have to be top 30 and qualify for the conference meet. We know what those marks are from previous years, so we're setting them up to do that. As you're going through regardless of who you are, you're always looking to learn something, improve and get in some competitive environments to see how that goes."
LAST TIME ON THE TRACK
The Huskies saw 10 athletes establish new personal bests while graduate student Paola Brena won the High Jump as part of a strong evening at the Bearson/Gathje Classic in Mankato in their first meet of the spring semester.
