St. Cloud State Men’s Soccer to Host Final Home Regular Season Matches During Homecoming Weekend

SCSU hosts PNW on Friday, UWP on Sunday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Soccer wraps up its regular season home schedule this weekend. The Huskies (2-5-2 overall, 2-2-1 GLIAC) play a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches during St. Cloud State's Homecoming Weekend. They match up against Purdue Northwest (6-1-3 overall, 3-1-1 GLIAC) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CT and UW-Parkside (6-1-2 overall, 4-0-1 GLIAC) on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. CT. Both games will be played at Husky Stadium.

WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
Friday is Fan Appreciation Night and Alumni Night. SCSU Men's Soccer alumni will receive free admission to Friday's game. There will also be raffles at half time and the prizes include soccer beanies, Husky drawstring bags and 2024 soccer season tickets.
Sunday is Senior Day, and the seven seniors will be honored approximately 30 minutes prior to the game.
LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies earned their second win of the season and second consecutive win on Sunday when they defeated Northern Michigan, 2-0 at Husky Stadium. Owen Worsdell (Brighton, England) scored an unassisted goal to open up the game in the 17th minute. In the final minute of the match, the Huskies doubled their lead when Ronaldo Lopez (Baraboo, Wis.) scored a goal that was set up by Philip Caputo (Eagan, Minn.). It was the first goal of the season for both Worsdell and Lopez, and it was the second consecutive game that Caputo recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Dylan De Baldo (Vancouver, Wash.) posted his second consecutive, and fourth overall, clean sheet in the match, making a season-high eight saves after facing a career-high 20 shots. It was the second time in program history winning back-to-back matches and was the first time in program history posting shutouts in two consecutive games.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the sixth time the Huskies play Purdue Northwest. SCSU picked up its first win of the season against the Pride on Sept. 24, winning 1-0 in Hammond. Zinedine Kroeten (St. Louis Park, Minn.) scored the game's lone goal early in the first half. The Huskies hold a 3-2-0 against PNW and have won the last two matchups.
This will also be the Huskies sixth matchup against UW-Parkside. Earlier this season, SCSU dropped its match against the Rangers 2-0 in Kenosha. The Huskies hold an 0-4-1 all-time record against UWP.
SCOUTING PURDUE NORTHWEST
PNW is on a two-game winning streak after falling to the Huskies, 1-0 on Sept. 24. On Friday, the Pride beat Davenport, 2-0 and on Sunday they defeated Saginaw Valley State 2-0 (both games were on the road), moving their record to 6-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in GLIAC play. The Purdue Northwest currently sits in second in the GLIAC standings. In the second poll released by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) on Sept. 12, PNW was among teams that received votes to be ranked.
The standout players for PNW this season have been senior forward, Hugo Lorenzo, who has nine goals and three assists and senior forward, Jacob Battista, who has five goals and three assists. In the last two matches, Lorenzo has scored a goal and recorded an assist. In the GLIAC, he ranks first in goals, points and shots on goal and is tied for the lead in game-winning goals while being tied for second in assists and shots. He has been honored as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week three times this season, including last week. Battista is tied for the lead in the GLIAC in game-winning goals, second in points and shots on goal and tied for second in goals, assists and shots. Senior goalkeeper Eligh Williams has posted a 6-1-2 record with five clean sheets and a 0.44 goals against average. He leads the conference in goals against, goals against average, save percentage, wins, and shutouts. He has earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice, including last week after posting two shutouts.
SCOUTING UW-PARKSIDE
UWP is on a five-match unbeaten streak, winning its last four games after playing Purdue Northwest to a draw in its GLIAC opener. The Rangers have outscored their opponents 9-3 during conference play and sit atop the regular season standings. In the USC Poll, UWP was ranked No. 17 in the preseason poll and No. 6 in the week one poll after starting its season 2-0-0. After a draw and a loss to two nationally ranked teams brought the Rangers record to 2-1-1, they were among teams to receive votes in the week two poll. UWP's record now sits at 6-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the GLIAC.
Individually, the Rangers are led by redshirt freshman midfielder, Alejandro Martinez who has scored four goals and has one assist. He currently sits first in the GLIAC in shots, third in shots on goal and game-winning goals, fourth in goals and fifth in points. He was the week one GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals – both game-winners – in the team's first two games. Senior midfielder Edgar Heredia Victoria and redshirt junior midfielder Bryan Torres are tied for second on the team having scored three goals apiece. Heredia Victoria leads the team with four assists. Torres and Heredia Victoria are tied for fifth in goals scored in the GLIAC while Heredia Victoria leads the GLIAC in assists and junior midfielder/defender Julian Villalobos is tied for fourth. Heredia Victoria is also tied for third in points, fourth in shots and tied for fourth in game-winning goals. Redshirt senior defender, Mike Howell won GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week in week four after helping the backline record two shutouts in two victories. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper, Daniyal Rana has played every available minute between the posts for UWP, making 26 saves and posting a 6-1-2 record with two shutouts. He is tied for the lead in wins in the conference.
