
St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Hits the Road for Matchup with UW-Parkside

Huskies look to stay undefeated on the season
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (1-0, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) makes its first road trip of the season this weekend when it heads to Kenosha, Wis. to face off against UW-Parkside (1-1, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
The Huskies are looking to string together back-to-back 2-0 starts for the first time since the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons. St. Cloud State went on to finish those seasons with 17 and 19 wins respectively.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Huskies took care of business in their season/home opener and captured their first victory of the season when they beat Valley City State 77-43.
The duo of sophomore forward Ashley Sawicki (Waunakee, Wis.) and senior guard Makenna Vanzant (Farmington, Ark.) got the party started for St. Cloud State in the first quarter combining for 12 of the Huskies 17 points. Sawicki would dominate in the paint with six points and cleaned up on the glass with six first quarter rebounds. Sawicki finished the game with 13 rebounds – seven of them coming on the offensive end. Vanzant cashed in two three pointers in the opening frame to give the Huskies an 11-point lead. The Huskies would push the lead to 17 points heading into halftime as their stifling defense held the Vikings to 5-22 shooting in the half. St. Cloud State also forced 13 of the Vikings 25 turnovers in the first half and turning them into 15-points. Coming out of the break, the Huskies caught fire as they made six of their first eight shots on their way to outscoring Valley City 26-10. St. Cloud State would comfortably win the game by 34-points, and they shot 50% from the field in the second half.
Senior Forward Dru Henning (Mukwanago, Wis.) lead SCSU with 12 points, two steals, and two made three-pointers. Three other Huskies would finish in double-digit points as senior guard Morgan Draheim (Hortonville, Wis.), sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.), and freshman forward Paige Lambe (Verona, Wis.) all scored 10-points. Senior guard Tori Peschel (Sauk Centre, Minn.) poured in eight points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out four assists in her 21 minutes of action. All 14 Huskies saw action in this game and all but three scored.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's tilt with UW-Parkside will be the fifth time that the two teams have met. The teams first met in the 1983-84 season, and they most recently met in the 1996-97 season. St. Cloud State holds a 3-1 record all-time against the Rangers.
SCOUTING UW-PARKSIDE
UW-Parkside comes into this matchup with a split record of 1-1. The Rangers dropped their season opener 68-75 against Thomas More University and bounced back with a 77-49 victory over Minnesota Duluth. Senior guard Patty Gallasova leads UWP with 16.5 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Junior guard Sheridan Flauger and sophomore forward Kendal Zeiter are also scoring in double-digits for the Rangers with 13 and 10.5 points respectively. Flauger has made a team high six three pointers and is averaging six assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. Zeiter leads the team in blocks per game with 1.5 and is also shooting 71% from the field in 15.5 minutes per game. Hired in 2018, Jen Conley enters her 6th season as the Rangers head coach. Conley has posted a record of 73-65 in her tenure with the program including four straight winning seasons.

Head coach Lori Fish enters her 16th season at the helm of the SCSU Women's Basketball program that owned an impressive 17-10 (14-8 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) record last season, finishing the season second in the North Division of the NSIC and tied for fourth overall. The Huskies were picked to finish fifth in the 2023-24 NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll and sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.) was named the preseason player to watch by the NSIC.
With a roster of 10 underclassmen, we will rely heavily on our seniors to help prepare our young team for what it takes to work hard every day and compete in the toughest conference in Division II," said coach Fish.
Eggebrecht looks to build off her impressive true freshman campaign in which she earned Second Team All-NSIC honors. She started all 27 games for the Huskies and played a team-high 30.1 minutes per game while averaging 14.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game and shot 44.7% from the field, 39.5% from three and 88.9% from the free throw line. She also led the team in field goals attempted (333), three pointers made (49), three pointers attempted (124) and free throw percentage (88.9%) while ranking second on the team in field goals made (149), field goal percentage (44.7%) and points per game (14.3).
"Jada had an outstanding freshman campaign, and we are excited to see how she elevates her game after the off season and knowing what it takes to play in the NSIC," said coach Fish.
SCSU returns five seniors – guard Morgan Drahiem (Hortonville, Wis.), forward Dru Henning (Mukwonago, Wis.), forward Jasmine Litt (Pulaski, Wis.), guard Tori Peschel (Sauk Centre, Minn.) and guard Makenna Vanzant (Farmington, Ark.) and five sophomores – Eggebrecht, forward Kora Forsline (Aurora, Minn.), forward Madi Herkenhoff (Albany, Minn.), forward Ashley Sawicki (Waunakee, Wis.) and guard Alyssa Stamer (Hutchinson, Minn.) from last year's team. Eggebrecht, Henning and Peschel were starters. The Huskies added five freshmen – guard Kyla Hendricks (Green Bay, Wis.), forward Paige Lambe (Verona, Wis.), forward Abigail O'Reilly (Elgin, Minn.), guard Grace Roesch (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) and guard Alana Zarneke (Appleton, Wis.) to the squad during the offseason.
