SCSU Women’s Basketball Earns Comeback Road Win After Huge Fourth Quarter Showing

Huskies pour in 27 fourth quarter points, earn 71-64 win over UW-Parkside
KENOSHA, Wis. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (2-0, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) picked up a 71-64 win over UW-Parkside (1-2, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) on Saturday afternoon in Kenosha at De Simone Arena in its first road game of the season.
It took nearly 30 minutes for the Huskies offense to start clicking on all cylinders, as they trailed 47-44 going into the fourth quarter, but once it did, it was a scary sight for UWP. The Huskies increased their field goal percentage every quarter – 18.8% in the first, 36.8% in the second, 45.5% in the third and 70.0% in the fourth – as they were getting into their rhythm. SCSU surged ahead of the Rangers in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 27-17 in the final 10 minutes of the game. 12 of the Huskies 22 field goal makes in the game were three pointers, as they shot a sizzling 46.2% from behind the arc (12-26). The Huskies scored 15 points from the charity stripe, making 75% of their foul shots.
Sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.) and freshman guard Alana Zarneke (Appleton, Wis.) led the Huskies in scoring with 12 points apiece. Two other Huskies – senior forward Dru Henning (Mukwonago, Wis.) and senior guard Makenna Vanzant (Farmington, Ark.) also contributed double-digit points, scoring 11 and 10 respectively.

SCSU gets another week off before it plays its first double-header weekend of the 2023-24 season. Next Saturday, Nov. 25, the Huskies host Northern Michigan and on Sunday, Nov. 26, the Huskies welcome Michigan Tech to town. Both games are nonconference matchups. TOP HUSKIES
- Eggebrecht tied for the game high in points (12). She was 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from three and added three rebounds.
- Zarneke also tied for the game high in points (12) in just 8 minutes off the bench. All of her buckets came from behind the three-point line and she was extremely efficient (4-of-5).
- Vanzant and fellow senior guard Morgan Draheim (Hortonville, Wis.) filled the stat sheet. Vanzant tallied 10 points, five assists, and four rebounds and Draheim recorded nine points, four assists and four rebounds.
- The Huskies are now 4-1 all-time against UW-Parkside.
- SCSU led the game in three-point percentage (46.2%-33.3%), three pointers (12-7), free throws (15-3), total rebounds (9-28—37, 9-27—36), blocks (9-4), second chance points (11-6), fast break points (8-6) and bench points (30-27).
- UWP led in field goal percentage (42.2%-39.3%), field goals (27-22), free throw percentage (100.0%-75.0%), assists (17-16), points in the paint (30-10),
- Each team had eight steals and 13 points off turnovers
- Eggebrecht has scored double-digit points in five consecutive times dating back to last year, her freshman campaign. She had scored 10+ points in 24 of her 29 games as a Husky.
- Zarneke scored a new career-high 12 points.
- Henning has opened up her senior season by scoring double-digit points in back-to back games. She has scored 10+ points 12 time in her career.
- Third career game that Vanzant has scored double-digit points and first game this season.
- Draheim played a career-high 25 minutes and set new career single game marks in free throws made (four) and free throws attempted (six). She also tied her career-high for assists in a game (four).
- Senior guard Tori Peschel (Sauk Centre, Minn.) stuffed the stat sheet for the second game in a row, tallying six points, six rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. A season ago she averaged 3.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
- Sophomore forward Ashley Sawicki (Waunakee, Wis.) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
- Senior forward Jasmine Litt (Pulaski, Wis.) set many season-highs – minutes (19), points (eight), field goals made and attempted (3-of-6), three pointers made and attempted (1-of-3), free throws attempted and made (1-of-2), rebounds (four), assists (two), blocks (two) and assists (two).
