ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (0-3-2, 0-0-1 GLIAC) opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 0-0 tie against Saginaw Valley State (2-2-1, 0-0-1 GLIAC) on Friday night at Husky Stadium. It is the first time in program history that the Huskies have earned a point against SVSU.
TOP HUSKIES
"This was game five for us and it is a super result, in terms of the progress from where we've been in the first four games. I think we've improved almost every game and so, to play a team that is always nationally ranked, always competitive and always so good to a tough 0-0 draw is a very good result - very positive.
On players that stepped up and led the way... "Vuke [Mastilovic] moved to the left side of our defense and was terrific...the whole back four played good - Juan [Villegas], Owen [Worsdell] and Noah [Eklund] were terrific and Dylan De Baldo showed what a good goalie he can be - to get a shutout in his home conference debut is a good accomplishment...everyone worked hard and was diligent...the biggest difference for us now is we have guys coming off the bench and the level of quality never drops and that's important in a long conference season."
On the quick turnaround between matches... "This is life in the GLIAC, we'll be ready to do it again at noon on Sunday...that is a part of what our Colorado trip prepared us for - to play those two games in three days...we prioritize our physical preparation by working on recovery, looking after ourselves, hydrating and getting your rest is the biggest thing – rest, rest, rest...other guys who maybe didn't get to play tonight will be asked to step up and do a job."
On getting a result against the GLIAC preseason favorites... "It sends a message to the rest of the conference. I think when they looked at some of our results from early in the year, they were like, "wow"...I think they know we're here to compete and that we'll be a handful for anybody we play"
