Second Half Turnovers Plague St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Against No. 25 Minnesota State

Huskies forced into 24 total turnovers in 71-47 defeat
MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (10-7 overall, 7-6 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) fell to No. 25 Minnesota State, 71-47 on Friday evening at the Taylor Center.
The Mavericks (15-4, 12-1 NSIC) only held a three-point advantage at the halftime break over the Huskies. The first 20 minutes saw each team turn the ball over seven times and struggle to put the ball in the basket – SCSU shot 30.0% from the field and MSU shot 32.4% from the field.
The Huskies struggled mightily in the third quarter, seeing their deficit balloon to 28 points after being outscored 29-4 in the period. The Huskies shot just 1-of-10 and were forced into 11 turnovers in the third, which lead to 15 MSU points. SCSU outscored the Mavericks 16-12 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.

- Senior forward Jasmine Litt (Pulaski, Wis.) scored a team-high 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and grabbed four rebounds.
- Sophomore forward Ashley Sawicki (Waunakee, Wis.) scored 6 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- Freshman forward Abigail O'Reilly (Elgin, Minn.) scored six points and grabbed three rebounds.
- SCSU is now 67-46 all-time against Minnesota State.
- SCSU led the game in free throw percentage (77.8%-75.0%), blocks (4-3) and bench points (30-16).
- MSU led in field goal percentage (39.1%-27.7%), three-point percentage (29.4%-18.2%), field goals (27-18), three pointers (5-4), free throws (12-7), total rebounds (21-29—50 – 19-24—43), assists (15-10), steals (18-9), points off turnovers (22-9), points in the paint (36-24), second-chance points (17-9) and fast break points (17-0).
- SCSU tied its season high grabbing 19 offensive rebounds.
- Litt set a new career-high for three-point attempts (six). She scored 10+ points for the sixth time this season and first time since Dec. 9, 2023. She has grabbed 4+ rebounds in six games. She has made 2+ three pointers in five games.
- Sawicki was held under 10 points for the first time in eight games (Dec. 9, 2023). She has grabbed 7+ rebounds in eight games this season.
- O'Reilly scored 6+ points for the third time this season. She has grabbed 3+ rebounds in four games.
- Senior guard Tori Peschel (Sauk Centre, Minn.) grabbed five rebounds and scored four points. She took a season-high six field goal attempts. She has grabbed 5+ rebounds in seven of the 13 games she has played in this season.
- Senior forward Dru Henning (Mukwonago, Wis.) scored three points and grabbed four rebounds. She has grabbed 4+ rebounds in seven games.
- Freshman guard Alana Zarneke (Appleton, Wis.) set new career-highs in minutes (20), field goal attempts (seven), rebounds (four), assists (two – tie) and steals (one – tie). She has scored 3+ points in 11 games. She has made a three pointer in five straight games.
- Senior guard Makenna Vanzant (Farmington, Ark.) scored four points and tied her season high in steals (two). She has scored 4+ points in seven games. She has recorded multiple steals in two games.
- Freshman forward Paige Lambe (Verona, Wis.) tied her career-high in minutes (15).
- Sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.) was held scoreless for the first time in her collegiate career – her previous low was four points (three times last season).
