Graduate third baseman earns all-region honors for third time in his career
GREENSBORO, N.C. – St. Cloud State Baseball graduate third baseman Cal James (Buffalo, Minn.) earned his second all-region honor of the season after being named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Central Second Team, as announced by the organization on Wednesday. James was also named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-Central Region Second Team earlier this month.
James was nothing short of spectacular in his final collegiate season, earning All-NSIC First Team honors in his lone season as a Husky. James produced a .369/.504/.682 slash line with 13 home runs, 15 doubles, 49 RBI and 53 runs. Among conference leaders, James finished second in on-base percentage (.504), fifth in OPS (1.186), sixth in home runs (13), seventh in slugging percentage (.682) and ninth in runs scored (53). His 13 home runs rank eighth on SCSU's single season top-10 list while his 42 career home runs rank 18th among D-II players who were active in 2024. James was named NSIC Player of the Week after SCSU's 3-1 trip to Colorado (Feb. 24-26), after he hit .500 (9-for-18) over the four-game stand with four home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs. Prior to his time at SCSU, James was named the 2021 NSIC Freshman of the Year, earned All-NSIC honors in 2021 and 2023 and earned 2023 NCBWA Honorable Mention honors with U-Mary.
