St. Cloud State wins third consecutive game
St. Cloud, Minn. St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (3-2-0, 1-0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took down Northern Michigan 2-1 in their GLIAC opener Saturday evening for their third straight victory. Philip Caputo continued his hot streak as he found the back of the net in the 10th minute to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead. Caputo was setup on the play by Andrew Holmes and Nolan Pratumwon who skipped the ball down field to a streaking Caputo who beat the keeper for the goal. That score would hold up until halftime as the Huskies led 1-0 at the break. Northern Michigan was rejuvenated to start the half as a goal by Alessandro Scialanga in the 51st minute tied the game at 1-1. The teams would battle late into the match before former Northern Michigan Wildcat Noah Eklund drew a key foul to set up a free kick for the Huskies at midfield. Goalkeeper Ramy Atia booted the ball deep into the Wildcats box where Matt Greenland would come away with the ball and punch in the goal in the 83rd minute to put the Huskies up 2-1. The St. Cloud State defense locked in for the final seven minutes as Northern Michigan did not attempt a shot, leading to the 2-1 victory and third straight win for St. Cloud State.
