St. Cloud State Wins Fourth Consecutive Game

St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (4-2-0, 2-0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) extended their winning streak to four consecutive games Friday evening as they took down No. 21 ranked Wisconsin-Parkside 4-3. Eduardo Balduino opened up the scoring for the Huskies in the 26th minute as Philip Caputo and Owen Worsdell dished the ball over to Balduino who rocketed a ball off his right foot to find the net. St. Cloud State would go into halftime holding that 1-0 but the Rangers provided a quick answer as they tied the game in the 49th minute with a goal by Chris Estrada. The Huskies would answer almost instantly as the offense drove the ball deep into the box where Caputo fired a shot that would knock off the hand of a defender. No handball was initially called, but after discussion, the correct call was made, and Caputo was awarded a penalty kick. The senior midfielder made the most of the opportunity as he wound up and scorched the ball past the keeper to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead. The teams battled on, but Parkside perfectly executed a free kick in the 62nd minute as Tank Anderson sailed a ball into the ball and Paco Piscaglia knocked it in with his head to tie the game 2-2. The Huskies would ultimately take the lead late in the game as it was Caputo again after Yuken Harmon drove the ball into Ranger territory and worked the ball to Balduino who then found Caputo who smacked in his second goal of the game off his left foot to give St. Cloud State a 3-2 lead at the 75-minute mark. Parkside would not go away as they worked the ball deep into Husky territory and Eduardo Perez tied the game in the 83rd minute. The Huskies, who have been a resilient group all year, were determined to come away with the victory. In the 84th minute, Andrew Holmes skipped the ball over to Austin Plumhoff on the left side of the field who then dished it down to Caputo who worked his magic by beating multiple defenders off the dribble to get into the box and unleashed a ferocious kick to the right post that hit the back of the net. St. Cloud State would take a 4-3 lead and locked down the Rangers offense in the remaining six minutes as they did not allow a shot. The Huskies would defeat the No. 21 ranked Parkside Rangers for their fourth consecutive victory.

Philip Caputo recorded seven points on the evening (the second most in a single game in program history) by tallying his second career hat trick and an assist. Caputo has now scored a goal in five consecutive games, which is a program record, and tallied a point in five consecutive games, which is the second longest streak in program history. On the year, Caputo has scored 22 points (a single season record), nine goals (a single season record), four assists (ties a single season record), and two game-winning goals (ties a single season record).
Eduardo Balduino recorded three points including his first career goal and second career assist.

St. Cloud State now has a 2-4-2 record against Wisconsin-Parkside.
Parkside led the game in shots (20-14) and shots on goal (7-5).
With the win, the Huskies extend their winning streak to four games, the longest streak in program history.
Austin Plumhoff, Owen Worsdell, Andrew Holmes, and Yuken Harmon all recorded one assist. This was the third assist of the season for Plumhoff and Holmes, the second for Worsdell, and first for Harmon.
Ramy Atia started in goal for the Huskies and played all 90 minutes and tied his season high with four-saves.
Noah Eklund, Noah Kantorowicz, Yannick Langerhuizen, and Andrew Holmes all played 90 minutes.
