Last Time Out
St. Cloud State Men's Soccer opened up conference play this past week as they hosted Northern Michigan Saturday evening.
Philip Caputo got the party started early in the first half for the Huskies as he cashed in his sixth goal of the season in the 10th minute off assists by Nolan Pratumwon and Andrew Holmes. The goal by Caputo not only put the Huskies up 1-0, but also extended his streak of consecutive games with a goal to four. The streak is now the longest in program history. St. Cloud State held that lead for the remainder of the first half and went into halftime leading 1-0. Northern Michigan came out of the break rejuvenated and used that energy to tie the game in the 51st minute with a goal by Alessandro Scialanga. The two teams battled late into the match before former Northern Michigan Wildcat Noah Eklund drew a key foul at midfield to set up a free kick. Goalkeeper Ramy Atia launched the ball deep into the Wildcats box where Matt Greenland delivered a strike off of his right foot to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead in the 83rd minute. The St. Cloud State defense locked in for the final seven minutes as Northern Michigan was unable to attempt a shot leading to the 2-1 victory and third straight win for St. Cloud State.
Lockdown Goalie
Following the Huskies undefeated week, goalkeeper Ramy Atia was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. In St. Cloud State's 2-0 week, Atia led the conference in saves (6), save percentage (.857), goals against average (0.67) in 135 minutes of play, and allowed the least goals of any goalkeeper in the conference with one. Atia recorded three saves and shutout half against Jamestown and three saves while delivering the game-winning assist in the Huskies 2-1 victory over Northern Michigan.

Series history
Friday's game against Wisconsin Parkside will be the seventh meeting between the teams with the Huskies holding a 1-4-1 record against the Rangers.
The two programs played twice last year with the teams splitting the games. The first game took place in Kenosha, Wisconsin where no scoring occurred in the first 61 minutes of play. The Rangers changed that in the 62nd minute when Edgar Heredia Victoria broke the tie and gave Parkside a 1-0 lead. The scoring continued for the Rangers late in the game as Alejandro Martinez put the game away in the 89th minute as he found the back of the net to ultimately give the Rangers a 2-0 victory.
The second game took place at Husky Stadium where the Huskies would not be shutout as Philip Caputo rocketed a ball into the cage off a feed from Juan Villegas in the 10th minute. The Huskies would take that 1-0 lead into the second half before Caputo crossed a ball into the middle of the field where Parkside would pickup a handball penalty, setting up a chance for Zinedine Kroeten. Kroeten fired a shot into the net that was initially blocked, but he picked up the rebound and scorched the ball past the keeper to give St. Cloud State a 2-0 lead in the 51st minute. Parkside knocked in their own goal in the 61st minute to set the score at 2-1 but were unable to tie the game as St. Cloud State picked up the 2-1 victory.
Sunday's game against Purdue Northwest will be the seventh meeting between the teams with St. Cloud State holding a 3-3-0 record against the Pride.
The two programs played twice a season ago where they split the two matchups. The matchup took place in Hammond, Indiana where the Huskies took a quick 1-0 lead as Zinedine Kroeten stuffed a ball into the net after Mika Folstad swung a pass up to Philip Caputo who then set up Kroeten for the goal in the 5th minute. The lone goal would be the game-winner as the Huskies shutout Purdue Northwest with goalkeeper Dylan De Baldo recording four saves.
The second meeting took place at Husky Stadium where this game, the Pride flipped the script on the Huskies as they scored a goal in the 5th minute to take a 1-0 lead. That would be the only goal needed to secure the victory, but Purdue Northwest tacked on two more goals in the 28th and 55th minutes to take down the Huskies 3-0.
Scouting Wisconsin Parkside
The Wisconsin Parkside Rangers come into this game ranked as the No. 22 team in the country and hold a 2-0-2 record and a 0-0-1 record in GLIAC play. The two wins for the Rangers have come against Quincy and Illinois Springfield while their two ties have come against Lewis and Purdue Northwest. Parkside is coming off of a 9-5-3 (7-2-1 GLIAC) record in 2023 where they reached the NCAA Tournament but were defeated 3-4 by Maryville. This year, the Rangers return four of their top six points scorers from 2023 including Chris Estrada, Paco Piscaglia, Bryan Torres, and Mario Bolado who all scored 8+ points last season. Estrada, Bolado, and Jules Peycelon were all named All-GLIAC last year. While the Rangers offer a plethora of returners, they lost 2023 GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-Region honoree Mike Howell as well as their leading points scorer and All-American Alejandro Martinez. Howell and Martiniez were both First Team All-GLIAC selections last season.
Through four games, Estrada is the current points leader on the team with seven and has tallied three goals and an assist. Senior Jules Peycelon is second on the team in points with five and has registered two goals with an assist.
Starting in goal will likely be redshirt junior Daniyal Rana who has started three games for the Rangers and compiled stats of three goals allowed, 1.00 goals against average, eight saves, .727 save percentage, one shutout and a 2-0-1 record. Last year, Rana started 11 games where he put together a 7-2-2 record, allowed 15 goals for a 1.36 goals against average, saved 34 shots for a .694 save percentage, and tallied two shutouts.
Head Coach Jason Zitzke enters his 14th season with the Rangers in 2024. Zitzke has put together a historic career in his tenure with Parkside as he has compiled a 112-85-30 record, three GLIAC Coach of the Year honors, four NCAA Tournament appearances, and five GLIAC Championships.
