#3/4 SCSU Men's Hockey Alabama Bound on Nov. 15-16

The #3/4 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (6-1-1, 3-1-0 NCHC) will return to the south for the first time since 1990 as the Huskies play at non-conference rival Alabama Huntsville on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16. Both games at the Von Braun Center (6,000 cap.) in Huntsville, Ala. are scheduled to begin at 7:07 p.m. (CT).

THE CHART ON THE CHARGERS: UAH is 0-8-0 this season, which includes a 0-6 record in the WCHA. UAH joined the WCHA in 2013-14. The Huskies own a 9-0-0 record against UAH, which includes an 8-3, 4-0 series sweep at the Brooks Center against UAH in 2012-13. The last time SCSU played in Huntsville was on Mar. 3, 1990 (6-1 win). The Huskies are 3-0-0 in play at UAH during SCSU's DI era.
BOUNCE BACK: SCSU suffered its first loss of the season on Nov. 8 with a 2-0 loss to visiting Miami. The Huskies' losing skid was short-lived as they bounced back to gain a 2-1 win over the RedHawks in the second game of the series on Nov. 9 The Huskies now own a 6-1-1, 3-1-0 NCHC record in 2013-14. SCSU is a perfect 4-0-0 on the road this season.
FIRST TIME IN ST. CLOUD: The Huskies' victory over Miami on Nov. 9 marked the first time that SCSU has charted a home win over Miami in the series that dates back to 1987-88. Miami owns a 9-4-2 series lead but the Huskies own a 3-1-1 record in the last five games of the series... SCSU's 2-0 loss to Miami marked the first time since a 3-0 loss at home against North Dakota on Nov. 9, 2012 that the Huskies have suffered a shutout.
NORTH STAR COLLEGE CUP: SCSU will play Minnesota in the first round of the inaugual North Star College Cup on Jan. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul at 7 p.m. The early game that day will feature UMD and Minnesota State, Mankato at 4 p.m. The consolation and championship game will take place on Jan. 25 at the Xcel. GAME WINNER: Sophomore forward David Morley gained the number one star of the game on Nov. 9 with the game winning goal in the 2-1 win over Miami. This marked Morley's first goal of the season and his 12th goal at SCSU. On the play, junior defender Jarrod Rabey scored his first point of the year with an assist on the play.
KILLING TIME: SCSU was a perfect 5-of-5 on the penalty kill in play during the recent series against Miami. On the season, SCSU's penalty kill is 21-of-24 and ranks ninth in the nation at 87.5%...SCSU's defense has also been clicking this season with a 1.88 goals against average, which ranks third in the nation. The Huskies have allowed 15 goals this season in eight games played.
GREAT GOALIE: SCSU junior goalie Ryan Faragher has been the backbone of the Husky defensive corps with a 1.86 goals against average (15th in the nation), a .931 save rate (14th in the nation) and a 6-1-0 record (6th in the nation).
DRAFT STATUS: The 2013-14 roster at SCSU includes five NHL draft picks. The groups includes Los Angeles Kings draftees Kevin Gravel, Nic Dowd and Jonny Brodzinski. Nick Oliver is a draft choice of Nashville and Ben Storm is a 2013 draft pick of Colorado. SCSU has enjoyed a strong link to the NHL over the years with 24 former SCSU student-athletes going on to play in the NHL since 1931-32. In 2013-14 former SCSU players to see ice time in NHL games include Ryan Malone (Tampa Bay), Matt Cullen (Nashville) and Matt Hendricks (Nashville). Former SCSU players in 2012-13 to see NHL ice time were Malone, Cullen (Minnesota), Hendricks (Washington), Andrew Gordon (Vancouver), Ben Hanowski (Calgary), Drew LeBlanc (Chicago), Oliver Lauridsen (Philadelphia) and Andreas Nodl (Carolina).
AN ALABAMA HOMECOMING: The Huskies' upcoming series at non-conference rival Alabama Huntsville will be a homecoming of sorts for senior captain Nic Dowd since he is a resident of Huntsville, Ala. Dowd has scored 34 goals and 54 assists during his career at SCSU, which is the most points posted by a player from Alabama in the long history of the SCSU men's hockey program.
THE LAST TIME: The last time SCSU had a higher poll position than #3 in the DI national polls was a #2 ranking in the USCHO.com poll on Feb. 28, 2007. SCSU also hit #4 in the poll from Feb. 1 through March 1, 2010 and back in 2001-02, the Huskies held the number one spot in the poll for several weeks before falling back to #2 on Feb. 25, 2002.
HUSKY NEWS AND NOTES: SCSU has allowed just three power play goals this season in eight games played...the Huskies have only been outshot by their opponents in a game once in 2013-14. SCSU has outshot its opponents 275-210 in 2013-14...SCSU is 3-1-0 in games played against nationally ranked teams this season.
THE CHAMPS: The Huskies claimed their first WCHA regular season title in 2012-13 with an 18-9-1 league record. SCSU joined the league in 1990-91 and also won the WCHA FInal Five title in 2001. The Huskies also captured their first ever NCAA Regional title with a first place ending at the NCAA Midwest Regional in 2013. SCSU has gained 4 NCAA bids during the Bob Motzko era.
NEW NAME: SCSU announced on April 17, 2013 that it will rename its home arena in honor of Herb Brooks. A former Husky head coach during the 1986-87 season, Brooks played a key role in the Huskies' move to the DI level. The arena will now be called the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. On second reference, pleae refer to the facility as the Brooks Center.
